Energiekontor Strengthens Renewable Partnership With illwerke vkw Through Wind Asset Sale

(IN BRIEF) Energiekontor AG has sold the Haberloh and Heidkrug onshore wind parks in Lower Saxony to Austria’s illwerke vkw AG in a turnkey transaction totaling around 93 megawatts of capacity. The projects, located near the existing Völkersen wind park, will expand the site to approximately 104 megawatts once commissioned and are expected to generate around 220 GWh of renewable electricity annually. The sale marks Energiekontor’s seventh asset transaction in 2025 and supports illwerke vkw’s long-term strategy to significantly expand wind and solar power generation.

(PRESS RELEASE) BREMEN / BREGENZ, 21-Jan-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Energiekontor AG, the Bremen-based project developer and operator of wind and solar parks, has completed the turnkey sale of two onshore wind projects in Germany to Austria’s illwerke vkw AG, closing the transaction shortly before the end of 2025. The agreement covers the Haberloh and Heidkrug wind parks in Lower Saxony and represents a combined installed capacity of around 93 megawatts.

With this transaction, Energiekontor concluded the 2025 financial year with seven completed asset sales, reinforcing its strong project realization track record. For illwerke vkw, the acquisition marks a further expansion of its wind energy portfolio and significantly enlarges the Völkersen wind park site, which Energiekontor previously sold to the Austrian utility in 2021. Once the newly acquired parks are commissioned, the Völkersen location will reach a total capacity of approximately 104 megawatts.

The Haberloh and Heidkrug projects are located in the Verden district of Lower Saxony, in close proximity to the existing Völkersen wind park. Haberloh will contribute roughly 79 megawatts of capacity, while Heidkrug will add around 14 megawatts. Across both sites, a total of 13 Vestas V162-7.2 wind turbines are planned, each featuring a hub height of approximately 169 metres and a rotor diameter of 162 metres.

From the first full year of operation, the two wind parks are expected to generate around 220 gigawatt hours of renewable electricity annually. This output is sufficient to supply more than 66,000 average households and is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 160,000 tonnes per year. The projects benefit from a feed-in tariff under Germany’s Renewable Energy Sources Act, secured through the Federal Network Agency’s May 2025 tender.

The turnkey handover of the Haberloh and Heidkrug wind parks is scheduled for the end of 2027. Until then, Energiekontor will continue to leverage its experience in project development and execution, building on its existing role as technical and commercial manager of the Völkersen wind park, which has been in operation since 2023.

For illwerke vkw, the acquisition aligns with its long-term strategy of expanding renewable generation capacity while integrating wind power with its existing pumped storage assets. The company aims to systematically increase its wind and photovoltaic electricity production to 1,000 gigawatt hours by 2040, strengthening security of supply and supporting the transition to a renewable energy system.

The transaction highlights the continuation of a long-standing partnership between Energiekontor and illwerke vkw and underlines the importance of close cooperation between project developers and utilities in scaling up renewable energy infrastructure across Europe.
