EBRD’s €20 Million Loan to Allego for EV Charging Stations in Poland

EBRD’s €20 Million Loan to Allego for EV Charging Stations in Poland

(IN BRIEF) The EBRD is lending €20 million to Allego for the construction of 200 EV charging stations in Poland. This investment, supported by the CEF-Transport Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility, aims to boost electric mobility in Poland, helping the EU meet its decarbonisation targets.

Allego, which operates 35,000 charging ports across 16 countries, will expand its infrastructure in Poland, addressing the country’s lag in EV adoption and charging availability. The EBRD has invested over €14 billion in Poland since 1991, including a record €1.3 billion last year.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 6-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing a €20 million loan to Allego, a leading European EV charge point operator, to support the construction of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Poland. This investment aims to accelerate the rollout of electric mobility in the country, aligning with the European Union’s decarbonisation targets.

Allego, which operates 35,000 public charging ports across 16 European countries, plans to install 200 light and heavy-duty EV charging points at 50 locations throughout Poland. This project benefits from the CEF-Transport Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility, which supports the decarbonisation of the Trans-European Transport Network.

The expansion of EV infrastructure is crucial for Poland, which currently trails behind other EU countries in EV adoption and charging station availability. Increased investment in charging infrastructure will help facilitate the shift to electric vehicles, a key component in reducing road transport CO2 emissions.

Allego specializes in connecting charging points to power grids, installation, maintenance, operation, and smart charging and billing management.

The EBRD has been a significant institutional investor in Poland since 1991, investing over €14 billion in 532 projects. In the previous year, the EBRD set a record with €1.3 billion invested in Poland.
