(IN BRIEF) DHL Supply Chain is expanding its logistics capabilities in western Germany with the construction of a new carbon-neutral logistics center in Rheinbach’s Wolbersacker industrial park. The facility will provide 26,600 square meters of modern warehousing and transshipment space and is scheduled to begin operations in August 2026. Designed to meet rising demand for flexible logistics infrastructure in the Rhineland economic region, the new site will support a wide range of supply chain activities including traditional warehousing, e-commerce fulfillment, and automated logistics processes. The development emphasizes sustainability and energy efficiency, with features such as a photovoltaic system, battery storage, heat pumps, and energy-optimized lighting, and is being built to meet the Gold Standard certification of the German Sustainable Building Council. Located near the A61 motorway and close to Cologne/Bonn and Düsseldorf airports, the logistics center will strengthen regional connectivity and provide faster access to European markets. Local authorities and business leaders see the project as an important investment that will create jobs, enhance logistics infrastructure, and support economic growth in the Rhineland region.

(PRESS RELEASE) BONN, 4-Mar-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — DHL Supply Chain is strengthening its logistics footprint in western Germany with the development of a new carbon-neutral logistics center in Rheinbach, a project designed to expand capacity and support companies operating across the Rhineland economic region. The new facility, currently under construction at the Wolbersacker industrial park, will provide 26,600 square meters of modern warehousing and transshipment space and is expected to become operational in August 2026.

The expansion reflects growing demand for advanced logistics solutions in the region, where businesses increasingly require scalable infrastructure and faster connections to domestic and European markets. DHL Supply Chain, the contract logistics division of DHL Group, is positioning the Rheinbach site as a flexible hub capable of supporting a wide range of supply chain operations.

Katrin Hoelter, Chief Executive Officer of DHL Supply Chain Germany & Alps, explained that the investment addresses the need for adaptable logistics facilities that allow companies to grow while maintaining efficient connections to major transport corridors. The Rheinbach location is designed to help companies make their supply chains more resilient and efficient while integrating environmentally responsible logistics solutions that are becoming increasingly important in competitive markets.

The logistics center is being built according to the Gold Standard certification of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB), highlighting DHL’s focus on sustainability and energy efficiency. The facility will include advanced energy systems such as a 1.0 megawatt-peak photovoltaic installation, a 229-kilowatt battery storage system, high-efficiency heat pumps, and optimized LED lighting throughout the building.

A modular design approach will allow the space to be adapted for multiple logistics functions depending on customer needs. The building can support traditional warehousing operations, e-commerce fulfillment activities, or automated logistics solutions, providing flexibility for businesses from a wide range of industries.

Marie Schaefer, Business Unit Director West for DHL Supply Chain Germany & Alps, noted that demand for modern logistics space in the Rhineland region has remained consistently high. The Rheinbach project is expected to fill a significant gap in the market while offering strong connectivity to key transport routes.

The location provides direct access to the A61 motorway and is situated close to Cologne/Bonn Airport and Düsseldorf Airport, enabling faster distribution and improved access to major European markets. In addition, the site benefits from its integration with DHL’s broader logistics network and its proximity to the port of Duisburg, one of Europe’s most important inland ports.

Local officials also view the project as an important driver of economic development for the town. Rheinbach Mayor Dr. Daniel Phiesel highlighted the significance of DHL Supply Chain’s decision to establish operations in the Wolbersacker business park, noting that the project strengthens the town’s attractiveness as a business location and contributes to job creation while reinforcing the regional economy.

A topping-out ceremony for the new facility has already been held, bringing together representatives from DHL Supply Chain, the town of Rheinbach, and members of the regional business community. Participants emphasized the strategic importance of the development for expanding logistics infrastructure in the Rhineland and supporting the continued growth of companies operating in the region.

When completed in 2026, the Rheinbach logistics center is expected to serve as a key hub for modern, sustainable logistics operations, providing companies with improved distribution capabilities and environmentally responsible infrastructure.
