BONN, 27-Apr-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — Deutsche Telekom presents works from its own Art Collection Telekom at the 51st Art Cologne fair and confers the Art Cologne Award for New Positions. This will be Deutsche Telekom’s fourth appearance at Art Cologne with its own booth located in the entrance area in Passage 3/11. This year, Deutsche Telekom will be exhibiting from its collection of contemporary art from Eastern and Southeastern Europe, with a piece by Braco Dimitrijević and the series of works entitled “Women’s House (Sunglasses)” by Sanja Iveković.

“Our collection supports contemporary artists who create socially relevant art in the digital age. Many pieces of art are designed to be thought-provoking and to challenge perceptions. Like the work by Croatian artist Sanja Iveković. She addresses the pervasive disregard for women’s rights versus the façade presented to the public. It is a socially relevant issue that doesn’t only affect women in eastern Europe,” says Antje Hundhausen, Vice President, Brand Experience and responsible for Deutsche Telekom’s Art Collection Telekom.

Since April 1, four of the ten images from the “Women’s House (Sunglasses)” series by Croatian artist Sanja Iveković have been hanging in the Deutsche Telekom foyer in Bonn. The company is displaying the other six posters in the series at Art Cologne.

Since the 1970s, Sanja Iveković’s work has been influenced by her commitment to women’s rights, protection and self-determination. The images in the series “Women’s House (Sunglasses)” are the result of close collaborations with women’s shelters since 2002. They have been used in campaigns aiming to raise awareness of these issues and garner support. Statements by female victims of domestic violence are printed on oversized posters advertising exclusive sunglasses. Sanja Iveković juxtaposes the shocking testimonies with images of glamorous models. The pioneer of activist feminist art was born in Zagreb, in the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, in 1949. She continues to live and work in Zagreb.

Braco Dimitrijević lives and works in Paris. Like Sanja Iveković, his art has made an extremely important contribution to the development of modern and contemporary art in an Eastern European context. His work “This could be a place of historical importance”, on display at Art Cologne, was created in 1972. It challenges the assumptions made about historical significance and questions the meaning of the everyday. Born in 1948 in Sarajevo, Dimitrijević also draws attention to the potential harbored by every moment of life.

Deutsche Telekom confers ART COLOGNE AWARD for NEW POSITIONS

Deutsche Telekom will confer the fourth Art Cologne Award for New Positions at Art Cologne 2017. The prize recognizes an up-and-coming young artist and will be awarded on April 28. Worth 10,000 euros in total, the award also includes a solo exhibition at artothek Cologne. An exhibit by last year’s winner, Gerrit Frohne-Brinkmann, called “We have a T-Rex” opens at artothek Cologne at 8 p.m. on April 27, 2017.
