Citizens’ Dialogue in Dublin 10 January to mark the start of the European Year of Citizens 2013

Over 200 citizens from across Ireland and from many different backgrounds will engage in dialogue with Europe’s top policy-makers in Dublin’s City Hall on Thursday 10 January 2013.

22-1-2013 — /europawire.eu/ — The participants will be taking part in the first Citizens’ Dialogue of the European Year of Citizens 2013. It is being organised by the European Movement in Ireland on behalf of the European Commission and the Irish Government. It is part of a series of dialogues taking place across Europe about the future of Europe.

Before the main event gets under way, the citizens will have an opportunity to engage with the Taoiseach Enda Kenny, the Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore and the President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, who will be there to launch the European Year of Citizens. There will then follow an extensive dialogue with the Vice President of the European Commission Viviane Reding and with Irish Minister of State for European Affairs, Lucinda Creighton.

The Irish Presidency is also planning more citizens’ dialogues.  We want to bring the debate on our rights as EU citizens and about our future in Europe to several areas around the country.  And we will be looking for your ideas to mark both the Year and this, the 40th anniversary of Ireland’s membership of the Union. More information to follow soon.
