CET Partnership Opens €2 Million Call for International Energy Transition Research Projects by October 2025

(IN BRIEF) The CET Partnership’s 2025 call offers €2 million for international research projects that accelerate the EU’s energy transition toward a low-emission economy by 2050. Dutch applicants—including TO2 institutes—can apply for up to €400 000 per project, in collaboration with global partners. Proposals should address either multi-vector energy-industrial system integration or hydrogen and renewable fuel technologies. Key deadlines include a pre-proposal submission by 9 October 2025, a webinar on 17 June and matchmaking sessions on 19 and 24 June. Organized under Horizon Europe and aligned with the European Green Deal, the call emphasizes the need for continued innovation to achieve climate neutrality while ensuring energy security and cost-effectiveness.

(PRESS RELEASE) THE HAGUE, 17-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — The European Clean Energy Transition (CET) Partnership has launched an open call inviting international consortia to propose breakthrough technologies that will drive Europe’s shift to a low-emission energy system. For its 2025 funding round, the partnership is allocating a total of €2 million to support collaborative research geared toward achieving the EU’s net-zero target by 2050.

Dutch research teams are eligible to apply for grants in partnership with international peers, with the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) acting as a national gateway. Pre-proposals must be submitted by 9 October 2025. In a new development for this cycle, TO2 institutes (applied research organizations) may also participate. Each project may request up to €400 000 in support.

Awarded projects must make a substantial impact in at least one of the call’s thematic areas:

  • Module 1: Multi-vector interactions between integrated energy systems and industrial frameworks
  • Module 5: Hydrogen and renewable fuels

To help applicants prepare competitive bids, two information events are scheduled: a webinar on 17 June 2025, and online matchmaking sessions on 19 June (09:00–11:00 CEST) and 24 June (14:00–16:00 CEST). Details and registration links are available on RVO.nl.

This call for proposals forms part of the CET Partnership’s broader remit under Horizon Europe (2021–2027) and supports the EU Green Deal and European Climate Law commitments to reach climate neutrality by 2050. While renewable-energy efficiency has risen and costs have dropped in recent years, further innovation is crucial to secure energy affordability, security and the systemic transformation required for a zero-emission future.
