CertX Strengthens Europe’s AI Leadership Through Key Role in EU-Funded RobustifAI Project on Safe and Trustworthy GenAI

(IN BRIEF) CertX, part of SGS, has been appointed as the main assessment provider for the EU-funded €7.3 million RobustifAI project, which aims to create a framework for designing and deploying reliable, trustworthy Generative AI systems. The three-year initiative brings together 18 major partners from over 10 EU countries, Switzerland, and India to ensure AI advances serve both technological and societal goals. Led by CertX’s expertise in AI evaluation and digital trust, the project will address challenges such as bias, hallucinations, and reliability in GenAI models. It focuses on applying AI to human cyber-physical systems across industries including automotive, robotics, and cybersecurity. By integrating human reasoning and ethical design, RobustifAI aims to promote safe, responsible AI aligned with European values.

(PRESS RELEASE) GENEVA, 15-Oct-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — CertX, a subsidiary of SGS, has been chosen as the principal assessment provider for the European Union’s €7.3 million RobustifAI project. The initiative seeks to strengthen Europe’s leadership in building trustworthy and resilient Generative AI (GenAI) systems by developing a comprehensive framework for their design, evaluation, and deployment.

With 18 leading organisations from more than 10 EU member states, alongside Switzerland and India, RobustifAI brings together a powerful coalition of academia, industry, and technology experts. Over the next three years, the project aims to reinforce the EU’s position at the forefront of responsible AI innovation, ensuring that technical excellence and societal benefit evolve hand in hand.

Vincent Sabot, CEO of CertX, praised his team’s achievement and emphasised the company’s commitment to advancing trustworthy AI. “We are honoured to contribute to the RobustifAI initiative,” he said. “This collaboration highlights CertX’s expertise and leadership in the assessment of AI systems. Generative AI has revolutionised how machines create and interpret information, yet ensuring its robustness and reliability remains an urgent challenge. Our goal is to use our extensive experience in digital trust and AI safety to help address these gaps.”

Generative AI models—built on powerful foundation architectures—are reshaping industries through their capacity to generate text, images, and data-driven insights. However, they continue to face major concerns such as hallucinations, bias, and vulnerability to misuse, which can undermine both trust and adoption. The RobustifAI project addresses these shortcomings by focusing on improving GenAI’s technical, operational, and user robustness while embedding human values and symbolic reasoning into its systems.

Central to the project is the application of foundation models to human cyber-physical systems (HCPS)—networks that integrate computation, human input, and physical processes to manage and monitor real-world environments. These systems are particularly relevant to high-impact sectors such as automotive engineering, robotics, industrial automation, healthcare, and IT infrastructure.

To validate its approach, RobustifAI will conduct pilot implementations across three sectors—automotive, service robotics, and cybersecurity—demonstrating practical methods for safer, more dependable AI systems. The project will also work in alignment with other European initiatives, including AI-BOOST and efforts related to AI efficiency, autonomous mobility, and service robotics.

Through its participation, CertX reinforces its role as a trusted partner in digital trust and certification, continuing to advance global standards in cybersecurity and AI reliability.
