(IN BRIEF) Outokumpu has been named to CDP’s Climate Change A List, earning the highest possible score for its climate transparency and emissions reduction efforts. The assessment recognises the company’s strong governance, ambitious science-based targets, and progress in delivering low-carbon stainless steel products with a significantly lower carbon footprint than the industry average. Already ahead of its 2030 emissions-intensity reduction target, Outokumpu reports that its sustainability initiatives helped customers reduce emissions by around 10 million tonnes in 2024. The A score not only confirms Outokumpu’s leadership in climate action but also provides customers and stakeholders with clear, credible insight into its climate performance and long-term sustainability strategy.

(PRESS RELEASE) HELSINKI, 8-Jan-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Outokumpu has been awarded an ‘A’ score for Climate Change by CDP, placing the company among a select group of global leaders recognized for best-in-class climate action and transparency. The assessment highlights Outokumpu’s strong performance across key areas including governance, emissions reduction initiatives, science-based target setting, and the development of low-carbon products, reflecting sustained progress in reducing its environmental impact across operations and the wider value chain.

The recognition underscores Outokumpu’s position as a global leader in sustainable stainless steel, with production based on more than 90 percent recycled materials and a carbon footprint up to 75 percent lower than the industry average. The company is already well ahead of its science-based climate target to reduce emission intensity by 42 percent by 2030, having achieved a 32 percent reduction compared with its 2016 baseline. In 2024 alone, Outokumpu estimates that its climate initiatives enabled customers to cut their own emissions by approximately 10 million tonnes, reinforcing the role of low-carbon materials in supporting industrial decarbonisation.

Beyond recognition, the CDP A score also strengthens transparency for Outokumpu’s customers and partners, offering clear, independently assessed insight into the company’s climate strategy and performance. While Outokumpu received a more moderate ‘C’ score in the water security category, the overall result demonstrates a comprehensive and credible approach to climate disclosure at a time when regulators, investors, and customers are demanding greater accountability from heavy industry.
