Burberry Partners with V&A to Reinvent Iconic Fashion Gallery for a New Era

(IN BRIEF) Burberry has announced a new multi-year partnership with the Victoria and Albert Museum to transform its Fashion Gallery in South Kensington, rebranding it as The Burberry Gallery upon its reopening in spring 2027. This redevelopment will convert the gallery into a dynamic, interactive space that displays the museum’s extensive fashion collection, spanning five centuries, while also offering a broad range of educational and immersive experiences. The initiative, which builds on a long history of collaborations between Burberry and the V&A, aims to celebrate British heritage and innovation in fashion. The gallery will close for renovations on 4 May, with temporary access to the collection provided through the V&A East Storehouse and the museum’s website.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 1-Apr-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Burberry is proud to announce its commitment to a transformative new chapter for the Victoria and Albert Museum’s Fashion Gallery in South Kensington through a multi-year partnership. Uniting two storied British institutions that embody heritage, innovation, and creative excellence, the collaboration will see the Fashion Gallery undergo a major redevelopment and be exclusively rebranded as The Burberry Gallery when it reopens in spring 2027.

Set to close in May for a comprehensive renovation, the gallery will be reimagined as a vibrant, interactive space that not only displays the V&A’s extensive fashion collection spanning five centuries but also offers immersive experiences for visitors. The new gallery will feature an extensive programme of events, both online and in person, designed to broaden access to fashion education and celebrate the rich history of British fashion.

Joshua Schulman, Chief Executive Officer of Burberry, commented, “Our partnership with the V&A marks a milestone for British arts and culture. It brings together two iconic institutions with a shared legacy of heritage and innovation. We are thrilled to join forces with the V&A to celebrate fashion’s storied past and to create an inspiring space that will ignite creativity for generations to come.”

The V&A Fashion Gallery, one of the museum’s largest and most visited permanent spaces, was last structurally updated in 1962 and has previously showcased Burberry collections in several landmark exhibitions. Upon reopening as The Burberry Gallery, it will continue to exhibit a world-class selection of fashion pieces from a diverse range of designers and eras.

This new initiative builds on Burberry’s longstanding support for the arts, highlighted by previous collaborations with the British Pavilion at La Biennale di Venezia and the Royal Academy for the Thomas Burberry Prize, as well as hosting runway shows at prominent London venues such as Tate Britain and the National Theatre.

Tristram Hunt, Director of the V&A, added, “For over 150 years, the V&A and Burberry have stood as pillars of British fashion. This partnership allows us to present our remarkable collections in innovative and accessible ways, while also supporting education and craftsmanship across the country. We are immensely proud to display the Burberry name over one of the world’s premier fashion galleries.”

The Fashion Gallery will close on Sunday, 4 May to begin redevelopment and will reopen in spring 2027. In the meantime, the V&A’s fashion collection will remain accessible at the V&A East Storehouse, opening 31 May 2025, and online at vam.ac.uk.
