Borealis Partners with Messe Düsseldorf to Launch Reusable Cup System at K Fair 2025 for a More Sustainable Event

(IN BRIEF) Borealis is supporting Messe Düsseldorf’s K Fair 2025 by providing sustainable, reusable cups made from modified polypropylene and OMV’s ReOil® recycled feedstock. This initiative, aimed at reducing waste from single-use plastics, will be assessed through a pilot program that tracks reuse and recycling rates. The reusable cups will be available deposit-free at the event, with special collection points set up for easy return. Borealis is proud to play a key role in advancing sustainable solutions for large-scale exhibitions.

(PRESS RELEASE) VIENNA, 22-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Borealis is excited to announce its role in supporting Messe Düsseldorf’s K Fair 2025 by providing sustainable, reusable cups made from Borealis’ modified polypropylene (PP) for foam. This marks the first time the venue has implemented a comprehensive reusable cup system, aimed at reducing the environmental impact of single-use plastics during large-scale events. The cups, produced using OMV’s ReOil® technology, are made from chemically recycled feedstock, representing a significant step toward sustainability in the events industry.

At K Fair 2025, Borealis’ high-performance polypropylene cups will be used throughout the event’s restaurants and bars. This initiative is a key part of Messe Düsseldorf’s sustainability strategy and aligns with the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). The reusable cups will not only reduce waste but will also provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of reuse and recycling systems for future large-scale events.

The lightweight and durable cups are designed for multiple uses, providing a sustainable alternative to single-use packaging. The collaboration with OMV’s ReOil® technology ensures that the feedstock used in the production of the cups is circular, turning end-of-life plastics into new, usable materials and contributing to the circular economy.

The reusable cups will be available deposit-free at all service points across the event. Special collection containers will be placed throughout the venue, encouraging attendees to return their cups for reuse. Borealis, in collaboration with Messe Düsseldorf, will ensure that cups are collected, rinsed, and put back into circulation, with any cups disposed of in waste bins being recycled.

Through this pilot initiative, Borealis is proud to be part of an effort to make large-scale events more sustainable. The data gathered from this project will help shape the future of reusable systems in exhibitions, advancing the industry’s commitment to reducing waste and promoting circular solutions.
