Atos Group’s Eviden and Axione Consortium Enhances Toulouse Metro Line C with Next-Gen Radio and Cybersecurity Solutions

As part of the Axione-Eviden consortium, Eviden will deploy LTE 4G and WiFi systems on trains and extend the INPT network—used for emergency communications—to line C. The contract also covers the cybersecurity of the entire communication system, ensuring that ground and onboard networks are safeguarded through rigorous standards and integrated cyber functionalities. This initiative is supported by Eviden’s advanced MCx solutions, which facilitate secure and standardized transmissions, and positions line C as a pioneering project in France with innovative features such as a 4G LTE PMR radiocommunication system and an UHD WiFi network in depot areas. The project is a key element of the broader Toulouse Aerospace Express (TAE) scheme aimed at improving regional connectivity and urban mobility.

(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 26-Mar-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Eviden, the Atos Group business specializing in digital, cloud, big data, and security, has announced its selection by Tisséo, the public transport authority for the Toulouse metropolitan area, to implement and maintain an advanced ground-to-board radio communication system for the new metro line C. This prestigious contract, secured under the Axione-Eviden consortium with Axione serving as the market lead, underscores Eviden’s commitment to enhancing urban mobility through state-of-the-art communication and cybersecurity solutions.

Under this agreement, Eviden, leveraging its Mission-Critical Systems (MCS) division, will install LTE 4G and WiFi radio systems onboard trains while expanding the INPT radio coverage—previously limited to metro lines A and B—to the new line C. The INPT network, reserved for emergency and civil security services, is essential for ensuring swift, reliable communications in critical situations. Moreover, the contract encompasses the integration of radio communication interfaces with other Tisséo subsystems to create a seamlessly interconnected network.

Eviden is also responsible for managing the cybersecurity of the entire radio communication system on line C. The company will define stringent specifications to secure the ground-to-board links and, in collaboration with Axione, will fortify the ground infrastructure. This partnership also involves embedding cyber functionalities directly into the onboard hardware and software, thereby ensuring robust protection against potential threats.

Drawing on over 20 years of industry expertise and research and development, Eviden now offers its advanced MCx solutions, which guarantee standardized, secure, and reliable transmissions between trains, control centers, and railway personnel. Tisséo’s new line C is poised to become the first in France to feature MCx functionalities for voice communications on Infrastructure Maintenance Vehicles, alongside a pioneering 4G LTE PMR radiocommunication system. In addition, a dedicated Ultra High Speed (UHD) WiFi network has been installed in the line C garage areas to support real-time onboard video protection.

Metro line C is a cornerstone of the Toulouse Aerospace Express (TAE) project, which also includes the extension of line B and the conversion of the T2 tram line into an airport shuttle. Spanning 27 kilometers with 21 stations, line C will connect Colomiers and Labège, improve access to key economic centers including Matabiau station and Toulouse Blagnac airport, and enhance overall integration within the existing public transport network.
