ANDRITZ to lead pre-engineering of 435 000 tonne per year carbon capture plant in Aarhus

(IN BRIEF) ANDRITZ has been selected to execute the pre-engineering of a large-scale carbon capture plant at Kredsløb’s Aarhus district heating facility, tasked with removing approximately 435 000 tonnes of CO₂ annually using BASF’s OASE® blue solvent technology. The contract, recognized in Q2 2025 order intake, encompasses detailed design, process simulation and equipment specification, with full project greenlight contingent on CCS pool funding due in 2026. This award reinforces ANDRITZ’s expertise in delivering end-to-end carbon capture solutions that support clients’ decarbonization targets and highlights its broader commitment to sustainable growth and environmental innovation.

(PRESS RELEASE) GRAZ, 18-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — ANDRITZ has been chosen by Danish utility company Kredsløb to deliver the pre-engineering phase of a major carbon capture installation at the Aarhus waste-to-energy and biomass district heating plant. Under the notice to proceed received in Q2 2025, ANDRITZ Clean Air Technologies will begin detailed design work for a facility capable of extracting roughly 435 000 tonnes of CO₂ per year from flue gas streams. This landmark project leverages BASF’s licensed OASE® blue solvent technology and aligns with ANDRITZ’s commitment to driving economically viable decarbonization solutions worldwide.

The scope of work includes front-end engineering and design studies, process simulations, equipment specifications and integration planning, all pending final investment decision once Kredsløb secures funding from the Danish CCS pool—anticipated in 2026. ANDRITZ will draw on its global expertise in carbon capture system delivery, combining its Clean Air Technologies division’s proven plant engineering capabilities with advanced automation and digitalization to optimize performance and lifecycle value.

Harald Reissner, Senior Vice President of ANDRITZ Clean Air Technologies, remarked that “partnering with Kredsløb on this pioneering project underscores ANDRITZ’s role in accelerating the green transition. By deploying OASE® blue technology at scale, we will enable permanent carbon removals from sustainable biomass combustion, helping Denmark meet both municipal and national climate objectives.”

With a workforce of 30 000 across 280 locations in over 80 countries, ANDRITZ continues to expand its order intake in sustainable energy and environmental solutions. The pre-engineering award in Q2 2025 adds to a growing portfolio of carbon capture projects globally, demonstrating the group’s strategy of integrating advanced technologies to support clients’ net-zero ambitions.
