ANDRITZ Powers Up China’s Largest Kraft Pulp Mill for Liansheng Pulp & Paper with Advanced Eco-Friendly Technologies

(IN BRIEF) ANDRITZ has successfully started up a new pulp mill for Liansheng Pulp & Paper in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, China. The project included cutting-edge technology in all major areas of the mill, from chip handling and fiberline processes to the largest HERB recovery boiler in China and a fossil-free biomass gasification system. The mill, now the largest kraft pulp mill in China, was completed on schedule and is currently ramping up production. Liansheng Pulp & Paper and ANDRITZ have continued their strong collaboration, previously launching two tissue machines at the same site.

(PRESS RELEASE) GRAZ, 1-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — International technology group ANDRITZ has successfully completed the startup of a state-of-the-art pulp mill for Liansheng Pulp & Paper, located in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, China. This major project represents the latest milestone in the collaboration between the two companies and incorporates cutting-edge technology across all key process areas.

The comprehensive delivery from ANDRITZ included the installation of the chip handling system, a complete fiberline featuring the advanced Compact Press wash press technology, and chemical recovery systems. The project also includes China’s largest HERB recovery boiler, designed to maximize energy output from the recovery process. Furthermore, a white liquor plant equipped with a biomass gasification system ensures the lime kiln operates entirely free of fossil fuels, making it the largest of its kind globally. To ensure environmental compliance, a mill-wide incineration system treats all non-condensable gases, and two DeNOx scrubbers minimize NOx emissions to meet mill standards.

Xue Rongjun, General Manager at Zhanpu mill of Liansheng Pulp & Paper (Zhangzhou) Co., Ltd., highlighted the environmental benefits of the project, stating, “ANDRITZ’s resource-efficient and eco-friendly technologies are key to helping us meet our sustainability goals. The entire kraft pulp mill is now operating smoothly.”

The new mill, which is the largest kraft pulp facility in China, was delivered on schedule and is now increasing production capacity. This successful startup builds on the strong partnership between Liansheng Pulp & Paper and ANDRITZ, which previously provided two tissue machines with stock preparation and automation systems for the Zhangzhou mill in 2023.

“We are proud to continue our collaboration with Liansheng Pulp & Paper on this landmark project,” said Jarno Nymark, Executive Board Member of ANDRITZ. “Our innovative technologies are designed to deliver maximum efficiency and sustainability, aligning perfectly with Liansheng’s vision for the future.”
