(PRESS RELEASE) CARDIFF, 6-Jan-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Admiral Group plc has confirmed the completion of the sale of its U.S. motor insurance business, Elephant, to J.C. Flowers & Co., marking a strategic shift in the group’s international portfolio. The transaction, which includes Elephant Insurance Company and Elephant Insurance Services, became effective on 31 December 2025.

Headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, Elephant has established itself in the U.S. market as a provider of straightforward and affordable motor insurance. The business operates a customer-focused digital platform designed to help drivers tailor coverage to their individual needs and budgets, offering tools that prioritise ease of use and clarity.

Admiral Group stated that the divestment reflects its intention to focus future growth and investment on opportunities within the UK and Mainland Europe, while positioning Elephant for its next phase of development under new ownership. The company noted that Elephant has built a strong operational foundation, making it well placed to continue expanding its presence in the competitive U.S. insurance market.

Commenting on the transaction, Costantino Moretti, Head of International Insurance at Admiral Group, said the sale provides a positive path forward for Elephant, enabling continued growth and the delivery of high-quality insurance products to U.S. motorists. He also acknowledged the emotional aspect of the transition, recognising the contributions of Elephant colleagues and wishing them success as the business moves into its next chapter.

From the buyer’s perspective, J.C. Flowers highlighted Elephant’s potential to scale further in response to evolving consumer demand. The investment firm pointed to its specialist knowledge of the insurance sector as a key factor in supporting Elephant’s expansion, particularly as customers increasingly seek customised coverage options that align with their personal circumstances.

Elephant’s leadership also welcomed the completion of the transaction, describing it as an opportunity to build on the customer-centric culture developed under Admiral’s ownership. The company emphasised that the partnership with J.C. Flowers is expected to preserve Elephant’s core values while benefiting from additional industry expertise and strategic support.
