Catherine Ashton in 5ew York and Washington D.C. this week

Brussels, 14-2-2013 — /europawire.eu/ — Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/VicePresident of the Commission, is in the United States this week. She will meet the newly-appointed US Secretary of State John Kerry in Washington on Thursday and brief the United Nations Security Council in New York today.

The High Representative will brief the UN Security Council on strengthening cooperation between the European Union and the United Nations to contribute to international peace and security.

While in New York, Catherine Ashton is also meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. She will also hold a meeting with President of the UN General Assembly Vuk Jeremić.

From New York, the High Representative will travel to Washington, D.C, where she will meet with the new US Secretary of State John Kerry. They will discuss ways to strengthen the EU-US Strategic Partnership, including through the new and comprehensive Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership initiative. Also on the agenda: the Middle East Peace Process, E3+3 negotiations with Iran, support for the Balkans, joint work in Africa and other global security issues.
