Kuehne+Nagel and Milence Drive Electric Freight Forward with New UK Charging Hub and Expanding Network

(IN BRIEF) Kuehne+Nagel and Milence are leading the charge towards electric freight transport by demonstrating the integration of electric heavy-duty vehicles into Kuehne+Nagel’s logistics operations. With the opening of Milence’s first UK public fast-charging hub in Immingham, the companies are making strides in accelerating the shift to sustainable transport. The partnership, supported by data sharing and collaboration with policymakers, aims to address challenges and expand electric vehicle adoption, proving that electric trucks are not just a future solution but an operational reality today.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 30-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Kuehne+Nagel, a leading global logistics provider, and Milence, the company behind Europe’s largest public truck charging network, are jointly advancing the shift towards electric road freight with the successful integration of electric heavy-duty vehicles into Kuehne+Nagel’s operations. This collaboration highlights the growing role of electric trucks in modern logistics, as both companies work together to demonstrate the viability and ease of integrating electric trucks into everyday operations.

The partnership showcases the first UK public charging hub built by Milence, located in Immingham, near Able Humber Port. Kuehne+Nagel’s electric heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) now use this high-performance 400 kW CCS charging station, which currently takes between 1 and 2.5 hours to fully charge the vehicles. Milence plans to further reduce this charging time by adding a MegaWatt charger that will allow for a 30-45 minute charge, depending on vehicle type and battery specifications.

Kuehne+Nagel and Milence are also collaborating on data sharing to enhance fleet electrification, focusing on the strategic placement of charging hubs across Europe. This exchange includes operational insights on telematics, driver experience, and total cost of ownership, providing valuable real-world data to address challenges and build greater confidence in the adoption of electric trucks.

As part of the UK Government’s ‘Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator Programme,’ Kuehne+Nagel has been providing critical feedback on their electric fleet’s performance, helping to improve the technology and infrastructure. This ongoing partnership with policymakers is essential to accelerating the electrification of logistics.

Liam Knaggs (Location Acquisition Manager at Milence) and Kate Broome (Sustainability and Social Impact Director at Kuehne+Nagel UK)

Kate Broome, Sustainability and Social Impact Director at Kuehne+Nagel UK, emphasized the importance of both public and depot charging infrastructure in advancing the adoption of electric trucks. “Reliable and cost-effective public charging hubs are crucial to this transition, and we’re proud to be early adopters of Milence’s charging hub, demonstrating that electric heavy trucks are already a practical solution for the logistics industry,” she said.

Roel Vissers, CCO of Milence, added: “The shift to electric road transport is already underway, with over 20 operational hubs across Europe. Our collaboration with Kuehne+Nagel is helping to create the infrastructure needed for the industry to scale. Together, we’re making progress towards a sustainable, economically viable transport system.”
