(PRESS RELEASE) RUEIL-MALMAISON, 14-Jan-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Schneider Electric has been awarded a fourth Sustainability Lighthouse designation, the highest number held by any company globally. The Wuxi factory in China, recognized by the World Economic Forum (WEF), joins Schneider Electric’s other Sustainability Lighthouses in Hyderabad, India, Lexington, Kentucky, and Le Vaudreuil, France. These facilities are recognized for their exceptional achievements in reducing Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, as well as their efforts to foster a circular economy.

The Wuxi facility, which was first recognized as an Advanced Lighthouse in 2021, has now earned this new accolade for its advanced environmental solutions. Schneider Electric’s commitment to sustainability is further solidified through this achievement, as the company continues to lead the way with four of the 25 globally recognized Sustainability Lighthouses. The WEF and McKinsey & Company established the Global Lighthouse Network in 2018, which now includes 189 facilities worldwide using cutting-edge Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies to drive improvements in productivity, resilience, customer service, sustainability, and talent development.

The Wuxi campus, a key production site for Schneider Electric’s Energy Management and Industrial Automation business units, achieved net-zero emissions for Scope 1 and 2 in 2022, eight years ahead of schedule. Through innovative technologies such as AI-powered eco-design, a closed-loop CO2 tracking platform with suppliers, machine learning models for improved energy efficiency, and circular business models with customers, the site has successfully reduced its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90%, Scope 3 emissions by 65%, and water usage by 15% within just two years.

Mourad Tamoud, Schneider Electric’s Chief Supply Chain Officer, highlighted the importance of these achievements: “The Wuxi campus and our other Sustainability Lighthouse facilities demonstrate our ongoing commitment to sustainability and the critical role our supply chain plays in realizing our goals. By investing in scalable technologies, prioritizing our people’s development, and collaborating with partners, we continue to drive operational efficiency, flexibility, and customer satisfaction.”

Kiva Allgood, Head of the Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Supply Chains at the WEF, added, “Lighthouses are exemplars of sustainable innovation, utilizing digital technologies to transform production ecosystems. They set benchmarks that can inspire millions to embrace transformation across industries.”

Schneider Electric’s Wuxi site exemplifies the company’s Impact Supply Chain transformation program, which is designed to deliver positive results for both customers and the planet. The program focuses on four key pillars: empowering people to innovate, building a sustainable and net-zero-ready supply chain, ensuring industry-leading quality and reliability for customers, and driving performance through advanced technologies and collaborative design.
