Eni Partners with Japan’s JOGMEC on LNG Collaboration and Joins Emission Abatement Coalition

(IN BRIEF) Eni has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with Japan’s JOGMEC to collaborate on gas and LNG projects, aiming to diversify energy supply sources and support the energy transition. The agreement emphasizes the role of LNG in achieving carbon neutrality while also involving Japanese financial support for the Coral North project in Mozambique. Additionally, Eni has joined the Coalition for LNG Emission Abatement toward Net Zero (CLEAN Initiative), which aims to share best practices and reduce emissions across the LNG value chain, supported by the governments of Japan and South Korea.

(PRESS RELEASE) MILAN, 7-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Eni has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with Japan’s government agency, the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC), to collaborate in the gas and LNG sectors. This partnership aims to enhance the diversification of energy supply sources, supporting the role of gas and LNG in the energy transition while focusing on carbon neutrality. The cooperation includes potential LNG supply opportunities from Eni to Japan, as well as the involvement of Japanese financial institutions in the Coral North project in Mozambique.

In addition to this agreement, Eni has joined the Coalition for LNG Emission Abatement toward Net Zero (CLEAN Initiative), a coalition launched by major Japanese and Korean importers with government backing. The initiative promotes the sharing of best practices and global assessments to reduce emissions across the LNG value chain. It also underscores the commitment of Japan and South Korea, two of the world’s largest LNG importers, to advancing decarbonization efforts.
