(PRESS RELEASE) SORIA, 9-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Plenitude is excited to announce the commencement of operations at the Numancia wind plant, a project comprising two adjacent wind farms in Soria. This facility is poised to produce an estimated 31 GWh of electricity annually, sufficient to power more than 9,500 households.

With the inauguration of the Numancia plant, Plenitude’s total installed capacity in Spain rises to 440 MW, bolstered by a mix of solar and wind energy generation facilities spread across regions such as Castilla y León, Galicia, La Rioja, Catalonia, Castilla-La Mancha, and Murcia.

The Numancia project, located in the Almarza area, spans approximately 10 hectares and connects to the Garray electrical substation via a 17 km medium voltage overhead line. It features three Vestas V136 wind turbines, collectively generating around 13 megawatts (MW) of power.

Mariangiola Mollicone, Managing Director of Plenitude in Spain, remarked, “The launch of the Numancia plant underscores our commitment to investment in Spain, expanding our footprint in Castilla y León, where we are already supplying energy to over 24,000 retail customers, including 3,500 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).”

In a bid to promote ecological balance, the wind farms will incorporate advanced bird passage detection systems to mitigate risks to local wildlife. Additionally, an environmental monitoring plan will ensure that the facilities integrate seamlessly into their surroundings. A recreational area for public use has also been established adjacent to the farms. Plenitude is keen to explore further investment prospects in Castilla y León, with the goal of enhancing renewable energy production and optimizing services for its retail and SME clientele.

With the operationalization of Numancia, Plenitude now boasts over 440 MW of wind and photovoltaic energy capacity in Spain. This includes projects in various regions and ongoing developments totaling approximately 1 GW in Andalusia (Seville and Granada), Castilla y León (Salamanca), and Extremadura (Badajoz). The company is simultaneously advancing more than 2 GW in new projects across different phases, which involve hybrid solutions, battery storage technologies, and offshore wind initiatives.

As a subsidiary of Eni, Plenitude operates in over 15 countries worldwide, integrating renewable electricity production with energy sales and solutions for 10 million European clients. The company currently maintains a network of 20,000 charging points for electric vehicles and aims to reach 11.5 million clients, over 8 GW of renewable capacity, and 40,000 charging stations by 2027.

Calculation based on the average daily residential electricity consumption in Spain of 9 kWh per family, as reported by Red Eléctrica de España. For further information, please visit our link.
