Heidelberg Materials plans to increase the use of alternative fuels to 70% at the newly acquired cement plant by 2027, accelerating its decarbonization efforts. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval by Moroccan authorities.

(PRESS RELEASE) HEIDELBERG, 14-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Heidelberg Materials, through its subsidiary Ciments du Maroc, has acquired controlling stakes in Asment de Témara and 100% of Grabemaro, strengthening its footprint in Morocco’s growing construction market. Asment de Témara operates a cement plant with an annual capacity of 1.4 million tonnes, while Grabemaro supplies aggregates. This acquisition will boost Heidelberg Materials’ operations in Northern Morocco, including two aggregates sites and eight ready-mixed concrete plants.

The investment aligns with Heidelberg Materials’ strategy to expand in key markets while focusing on decarbonization. The company aims to increase the use of alternative fuels at the newly acquired cement plant, with plans to reach a 70% alternative fuel rate by 2027. Additionally, the acquisition grants access to an innovative platform for processing industrial waste, contributing to environmental sustainability.

This transaction, which is subject to regulatory approval, marks a significant step in Heidelberg Materials’ growth in Africa, enabling further market penetration and strengthening its local offering of sustainable building solutions.
