(PRESS RELEASE) BERGEN, 28-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Bergen Engines has secured a significant contract with VARD to supply a state-of-the-art Bergen B33:45L9P propulsion engine for Havbryn AS’s newest stern trawler. This vessel, designed under VARD’s renowned 8 02 blueprint, will operate using a cutting-edge hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system, aimed at minimizing both fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

The B33:45L9P engine, developed through extensive collaboration with maritime experts, is recognized for its efficiency, reliability, and adaptability. It not only meets current IMO Tier II and Tier III compliance standards but is also future-proofed for alternative fuels, including Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), and has undergone testing for other sustainable fuels like FAME and Methanol, with ongoing research into Ammonia compatibility.

Key highlights of the new vessel include an 80.4-meter length, an ice-strengthened hull, and an advanced processing factory, all designed to maximize resource utilization. The trawler, scheduled for delivery in Q3 2026, will also feature Vard Electro’s SeaQ Energy Storage and Bridge systems, further enhancing its fuel efficiency and operational performance. The hull will be constructed in Romania, with final outfitting and delivery in Norway.
