(PRESS RELEASE) ABERDEEN, 30-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Wood, a global leader in consulting and engineering, has been awarded a series of decarbonisation contracts worth approximately $100 million, aimed at reducing flare gas emissions and enhancing carbon efficiency across Iraq’s largest oil fields.

As part of the project, Wood will deliver brownfield engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services, along with modifications to improve operational efficiency and minimise environmental impact. This work directly supports Iraq’s ambitious goal to cut gas flaring by 78% by the end of 2025, aligning with the country’s commitment to sustainable energy practices.

Wood’s extensive experience in Iraq, including implementing the country’s largest flare gas reduction programme to date, has solidified its position as a trusted partner in decarbonisation solutions. The company has long worked with major operators in Iraq to develop and execute projects that enhance sustainability in the oil and gas sector.

Ellis Renforth, President of Operations for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, remarked: “Our partnerships with clients in Iraq are focused on helping the country achieve its energy ambitions while supporting a sustainable energy future. With Wood Iraq’s deep understanding of client infrastructure and operations, we are poised to improve operational efficiency and mitigate the effects of gas flaring while maintaining essential production.”

The reimbursable contracts, to be executed by Wood’s teams in Iraq and the UAE, will see the recruitment of 60 new employees to support the successful delivery of these projects.
