During the Summit, the University of Liverpool, LCRCA, and the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) formalized a new collaboration with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement advances “Meta-Liverpool,” a cutting-edge digital asset and policy modeling platform spearheaded by the University’s Digital Innovation Facility (DIF). Comparable to technologies in leading smart cities, Meta-Liverpool aims to unlock opportunities across science, research, business, and investment while delivering significant civic benefits for the Liverpool City Region.

Showcasing AI-Driven Innovations
University experts shared transformative projects addressing real-world challenges through AI:

  • Professor Andy Cooper, Academic Director of the Materials Innovation Factory, showcased the AI for Chemistry Hub and pioneering mobile robots automating chemical synthesis.
  • Professor Katie Atkinson, Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor, highlighted AI-driven solutions for law firms, automating routine tasks to enhance access to justice and improve case strategies.
  • Professor Iain Buchan, Director of Civic Health Innovation Labs, presented on AI’s role in tackling public health challenges such as antimicrobial resistance and pandemic preparedness.

Interactive exhibitions allowed attendees to explore the University’s cutting-edge research from world-class centers, including the Virtual Engineering Centre (VEC), Computational Biology Facility (CBF), and Civic Health Innovation Labs (CHIL).

The Summit also served as a platform to engage investors, spotlighting University spin-outs such as AI-Sight, which addresses diabetic vision loss, and SenseAI, which revolutionizes image capture and analysis.
