TÜV Rheinland Hong Kong and HKISP Host Professional Seminar on Welding Operation Safety and Emergency Risk Management

(IN BRIEF) TÜV Rheinland Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Institute of Safety Practitioners jointly hosted an online seminar on 21 January 2026 focusing on welding operation safety management, non-destructive testing, welding procedure qualification, and emergency safety, attracting safety practitioners and engineering professionals from across related industries. Patricia Kuang, Senior Executive at TÜV Rheinland and a National Registered Safety Engineer, delivered a keynote presentation that addressed key risks in welding and hot work operations, including electrical safety, ventilation, fire prevention, and emergency preparedness, supported by real-case examples and practical control measures such as permit systems, equipment inspections, and post-work monitoring. The seminar emphasized the importance of structured safety management, qualified personnel, and alignment between regulatory requirements and site operations, reinforcing TÜV Rheinland’s ongoing commitment to promoting occupational health and safety and sustainable industry development.

(PRESS RELEASE) HONG KONG, 4-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — TÜV Rheinland Hong Kong, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Institute of Safety Practitioners (HKISP), successfully organized an online professional seminar on 21 January 2026 focusing on welding operation safety and related technical standards. The event, titled “Welding Operation Safety Management, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), Welding Procedure Qualification (WPQ) & Welder Examination Safety Emergency Seminar,” brought together safety professionals, construction and engineering specialists, as well as senior management representatives from various industrial sectors. The seminar provided a valuable platform for technical exchange and practical knowledge sharing, with particular emphasis on risk management, regulatory compliance, and workplace safety culture in welding operations.

As the keynote speaker, Patricia Kuang, Senior Executive of Greater China Industrial Services & Cybersecurity at TÜV Rheinland and a National Registered Safety Engineer, delivered an in-depth presentation on “Welding Operation Safety Management.” Drawing from her extensive professional background in industrial safety, risk assessment, and compliance management, she provided participants with a structured and practical overview of the key hazards associated with welding and hot work activities.

Her presentation covered critical aspects of safety management, including workplace environment control, electrical and equipment safety, fire and explosion prevention, appropriate use of personal protective equipment, and emergency response planning. Patricia emphasized that effective safety management requires a holistic approach that integrates technical, organizational, and procedural elements to minimize risks and ensure operational reliability.

Through detailed case studies based on real industrial incidents, she illustrated common high-risk scenarios such as electrical insulation failures, insufficient ventilation in confined spaces, inadequate hot work controls, and weak fire prevention measures. She also outlined practical mitigation strategies, including pre-work equipment inspections, classified hot work permit systems, on-site safety supervision, and post-work fire monitoring procedures. These measures were presented as essential components of a proactive and systematic safety management framework.

The seminar further highlighted the importance of aligning standardized operating procedures with regulatory requirements and best industry practices. By ensuring that personnel are properly trained, qualified, and supported by clear emergency response protocols, organizations can significantly enhance their ability to identify, evaluate, and control welding-related risks before accidents occur.

Through initiatives such as this seminar, TÜV Rheinland continues to support organizations in strengthening occupational health and safety standards, fostering safer working environments, and promoting sustainable and high-quality industrial development across sectors.
