(PRESS RELEASE) COLOGNE, 8-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — TÜV Rheinland Hong Kong (TRHK) has been selected as an official Third-Party Certification Body for “Type H” Workshops, under a new program introduced by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD). This milestone is part of the EMSD’s Voluntary Registration Scheme for Vehicle Maintenance Workshops, which now includes high-voltage electric vehicle (EV) maintenance services.

In its July 22, 2024 announcement, EMSD extended its voluntary registration schemes for vehicle mechanics and maintenance workshops to incorporate EV maintenance. This initiative ensures that workshops performing high-voltage EV services meet rigorous safety and quality standards. Certified “Type H” workshops are authorized to conduct a range of high-voltage EV services, including diagnosis, testing, maintenance, and replacement of high-voltage components, thereby improving safety, transparency, and reliability within the EV maintenance sector.

Eligibility for “Type H” certification is limited to workshops already registered under the existing scheme and employing at least one full-time technician certified in high-voltage EV maintenance. Certified workshops must also meet specific facility and equipment requirements, including designated high-voltage work areas, insulated tools, and appropriate safety gear. Additionally, these workshops must adhere to strict safety protocols, such as system isolation procedures, PPE usage, and emergency response planning, under the supervision of certified technicians.
