Paris, France, 16-12-2013 — /EuropaWire/ — Yves Le Portz, third President of the European Investment Bank (from 1970 until 1984), passed away in Paris at the age of 93.

Born in 1920, a high civil servant after World War II, Yves le Portz occupied various positions under the French ministers of finance who succeeded each other in the many reshuffles characteristic of France’s Fourth Republic (1946-1958).

Delegated to the UN economic and social council he became Director General for Finance in Algeria from 1958 until 1962 and was then nominated Vice-president of the EIB from 1962 to 1970.

He developed the Bank’s activities in support of the common market which was undergoing profound changes and also outside the territory of the Community’s Member States to which he was particularly attentive.

After leaving the EIB he became President of the Commission des opérations de bourse (1984-1988), France’s financial markets regulator.
