The European University Association (EUA) calls on Europe’s universities to lead Europe’s energy transition

BRUSSELS, 16-6-2015 — /EuropaWire/ — The European University Association (EUA) is calling on Europe’s universities to take part in EUA’s UNI-SET Universities Survey, which will provide a mapping of Europe’s universitybased research and education programmes at Master and Doctorate level in the field of energy.

The UNI-SET project is taking forward EUA’s work in the field of energy through the European Platform of Universities in Energy Research and Education (EUA-EPUE). The information gathered with the survey will help develop EUA-EPUE as an interface between European universities and the European institutions, and also advocate on behalf of the university sector on energy matters.

The survey, which is the first step of the project, will identify opportunities for universities to engage in new research projects tackling energy-related challenges and also aims to foster the creation of new Master programmes according to the evolution of knowledge and technologies for better employability of university graduates. By these means, UNI-SET aims to reduce the fragmentation of European universities’ research, education and training capacities in the energy field.

EUA encourages universities across Europe to ensure they are leading Europe’s transition to a low-carbon society and participate in the first phase of the project through the ‘UNI-SET Universities Survey’.

Participation in the survey is a unique opportunity for universities to:

  • Have their energy-related Master, Doctorate and Research Programmes clearly displayed on up-to-date and interactive online maps;
  • Attract potential students and researchers;
  • Identify, and be identified by, other universities and stakeholders (business, research organisations, etc.) to find expertise and opportunities for research and education collaboration;
  • Identify opportunities to create multidisciplinary teams;
  • Have a central point of information on their institution’s energy-related activities;
  • Strengthen the voice of Europe’s universities in the energy field to attract more funding opportunities and to advocate universities roles in tackling the energy challenge;
  • Participate in the ‘UNI-SET Clustering Events’ which will take place during 2016 and 2017 across Europe;
  • Be part of an exceptional project of strategic relevance for the university sector.

Notes:
1. The survey will be active until Wednesday, 15 July 2015.
