Terra Firma Energy unifies asset optimisation under EDF to drive efficiency and support UK low-carbon goals

(IN BRIEF) EDF has partnered with Terra Firma Energy to optimise its 5MW Droitwich flexible generation plant and manage all of the company’s operational assets across the UK. Through EDF’s Powershift optimisation platform and market trading expertise, the partnership will maximise commercial value from wholesale and balancing markets while enhancing system flexibility and reliability. The collaboration supports Terra Firma’s growth strategy and reinforces EDF’s role as a leading enabler of the UK’s transition to a low-carbon, flexible power system.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 8-Oct-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — EDF, the UK’s largest producer of zero-carbon electricity, has announced a new partnership with Terra Firma Energy to optimise its 5MW Droitwich flexible generation plant, bringing all of Terra Firma’s operational assets under one trusted optimiser for the first time. The collaboration marks a significant step in Terra Firma’s strategy to expand its fleet and deliver reliable flexibility to the UK grid.

Under the agreement, EDF will take responsibility for trading, dispatch, and optimisation across Terra Firma’s portfolio, leveraging its Powershift platform and market-leading expertise to maximise commercial performance. The integrated approach will capture value from the wholesale electricity markets, Balancing Mechanism, and ancillary services, ensuring that Terra Firma’s sites contribute effectively to grid stability and the UK’s broader low-carbon transition.

Zach Dodds-Brown, Development Director at Terra Firma Energy, welcomed the collaboration:

“Having EDF manage all our assets is a real step forward. It ensures our portfolio operates more efficiently, delivers measurable value for our investors, and supports the UK’s move toward a low-carbon energy system.”

Stuart Fenner, Commercial Director at EDF’s Wholesale Market Services, added:

“We’re delighted to optimise Terra Firma’s Droitwich site alongside their wider operational portfolio. Consolidating their assets under EDF’s management maximises performance, enhances flexibility, and helps maintain a secure and resilient UK power system.”

The partnership underscores EDF’s continued leadership in energy optimisation and flexibility services, helping clients extract maximum value from distributed energy assets while maintaining system reliability. For Terra Firma Energy, it represents an important milestone in unifying its operational approach under a single optimiser, creating new opportunities for scale, consistency, and growth in the evolving UK energy market.

About EDF

EDF is helping Britain achieve Net Zero by leading the transition to a cleaner, low emission, electric future and tackling climate change. It is the UK’s largest producer of zero carbon electricity and supplies millions of customers with electricity and gas.

It generates low carbon electricity from five nuclear power stations and more than thirty onshore wind farms and two offshore wind farms. Since 2009, EDF has invested almost £8 billion in the nuclear fleet to improve reliability and extend station lifetimes. The five generating stations currently supply about 14% of the UK’s electricity demand.

EDF is leading the UK’s nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C. We also continue to support a replica plant at Sizewell C in Suffolk, which is now majority owned by the UK government. Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C will provide low carbon electricity to meet 14% of UK demand and power around 12 million homes.

EDF is one of the UK’s largest investors in renewables, with more than 1.5GW of renewable generation in operation and over 14GW in construction, planning and development across a range of technologies including onshore and offshore wind, solar and battery storage. We are constructing our largest offshore wind farm in Britain – the 450 MW Neart na Gaoithe project in Scotland.

EDF is helping its customers, both in business and at home, take their first steps to sustainably powering their lives, whether it is buying an electric car, generating and storing electricity, selling energy back to the grid or installing solar panels or a heat pump. EDF is one of the largest suppliers to British business and a leading supplier of innovative energy solutions that are helping businesses become more energy independent. In addition, the company’s energy services business, Dalkia, is one of the largest technical service providers in the UK and Ireland.

EDF is part of EDF Group, the world’s biggest electricity generator. In the UK, the company employs around 14,000 people at locations across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
