(PRESS RELEASE) AMSTERDAM, 19-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — In a bid to enhance manufacturing efficiency and sustainability, Stellantis is pushing forward with AI-enabled innovations across its global operations. The automaker recently hosted its ninth annual Factory Booster Day on September 18, 2024, at the Mirafiori Complex in Turin, Italy, where over 60 partners and 93 cutting-edge innovations were showcased. This event brought together suppliers and startups to propose advanced technological solutions aimed at transforming Stellantis’ manufacturing processes.

Factory Booster Day plays a pivotal role in Stellantis’ mission to modernize its production facilities. The event, which operates under an Open Challenge process, invites startups and suppliers to demonstrate new technologies through physical and virtual showcases. The goal is to leverage worker expertise, improve product quality, and reduce environmental impact, all while streamlining the production of vehicles and components.

Among the key innovations from past events that have already been implemented are cloud-based digital twins, AI-guided robots, and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). These technologies have contributed to significant cost savings, energy efficiency, and operational improvements.

For instance, Stellantis uses Autodesk Construction Cloud, a cloud-based platform that enhances collaboration between Stellantis and its suppliers by simulating facility layouts in real-time. First deployed at the Windsor Assembly Plant in Canada, this platform has shown measurable cost reductions and improved workflow efficiency. Similarly, AI-powered robot guidance systems from France-based startup Inbolt have optimized assembly operations by allowing robots to adjust in real-time, improving quality and reducing lead times. Autonomous wheels from Norwegian startup wheel.me have transformed carts and dollies into self-driving robots, improving material flow and safety within Stellantis factories.

Stellantis Chief Manufacturing Officer, Arnaud Deboeuf, highlighted the importance of these collaborations, noting that they have reduced transformation costs by 11%, energy consumption by 23%, and quality issues by 40% since 2021. These efforts are aligned with Stellantis’ Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan, which aims to achieve carbon net zero emissions by 2038 and a 40% reduction in production costs by 2030, driven by automation, AI, and digital solutions.

With an ambitious focus on sustainability, innovation, and efficiency, Stellantis continues to lead the charge in transforming the future of manufacturing.
