SolarLab Secures EUR 1.6 Million Nefco Loan to Boost Production and Expand in the U.S.

(IN BRIEF) SolarLab, a Danish company specializing in solar facades for buildings, has secured a EUR 1.6 million loan from Nefco to increase production and expand into the U.S. market. The funds will be used to relocate all production to Denmark, establish a new solar panel lamination line, and open a sales office in the U.S. by 2025. SolarLab’s solar facades replace traditional building materials with energy-generating panels, reducing the need for large solar parks and supporting carbon-neutral buildings. The company expects growing demand due to increased focus on energy efficiency in both Europe and the U.S.

(PRESS RELEASE) HELSINKI, 25-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — SolarLab, a Danish company specializing in customized solar facades for buildings, has received a EUR 1.6 million loan from Nefco, the Nordic Green Bank, to support its growth and production expansion. The financing will be used to move the entire production to Denmark, install a new solar panel lamination line, and establish a local sales office in the U.S.

With its innovative solar facades, SolarLab offers an integrated solution that replaces traditional building materials with energy-producing solar panels, allowing buildings like schools, hospitals, and public facilities to generate renewable energy on-site. This helps reduce the demand for large land-based solar parks while contributing to lower operating costs and the development of carbon-neutral buildings.

“We are delighted to support SolarLab’s journey. Their technology not only generates renewable energy locally but also helps reduce the environmental impact of buildings,” said Søren Berg Rasmussen, Investment Manager at Nefco.

The loan will enable SolarLab to increase its production capacity to meet the growing global demand, especially in the U.S., where favorable tax policies have spurred investments in renewable energy. As part of its international expansion, the company plans to open a U.S. sales office in 2025 to strengthen its presence in that key market.

“This loan from Nefco is a crucial step for our international growth. We already collaborate with top architects and developers to create solar facades that benefit both the climate and aesthetics. Demand, particularly in the U.S., continues to rise, and this financing will help us scale up our efforts,” said Peter Melchior, CTO of SolarLab.

SolarLab’s relocation of production to Denmark will enable greater control over the supply chain, increased flexibility in manufacturing, and a reduction in the carbon footprint of both production and transportation. The company uses renewable energy, mainly solar and wind, in its Danish facilities.

Headquartered in Aarhus, SolarLab has been involved in notable projects such as the Copenhagen International School in Nordhavn, Bornholm Hospital in Rønne, and Red River College in Canada.
