(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 20-Jan-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Schroders Solutions has been awarded a £170 million Fiduciary Management (FM) mandate from the Royal National Institute of Blind People’s (RNIB) Retirement Benefits Scheme after a rigorous and competitive tender process. This bespoke mandate aims to address the Scheme’s strategic requirements, emphasizing the integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors into investment decisions while aligning with the charitable mission of the RNIB.

The tailored solution developed by Schroders Solutions incorporates the Scheme’s specific ESG preferences, developed through close collaboration with the Trustees. A key feature of the investment portfolio is its exclusion of companies generating significant revenue from tobacco, recognizing the detrimental impact smoking can have on eyesight.

Schroders has leveraged this mandate to launch a pooled equity fund for other FM clients, which follows the same fiduciary management process but with a broader scope of exclusions and ESG considerations.

James Barham, Executive Chairman of Schroders Solutions, commented: “Securing this mandate is a testament to our dedication to forming strong partnerships with clients and delivering tailored investment solutions. We are excited to work with the Trustees and look forward to further establishing ourselves as the fiduciary management provider of choice, with a focus on responsible investing and portfolio construction.”

Andrew Evans, Chair of the RNIB Retirement Benefits Scheme, added: “After a thorough and competitive selection process, we are pleased to appoint Schroders as our fiduciary manager. They have demonstrated a deep understanding of our ESG priorities and effectively integrated them into the Scheme’s investment strategy.”

Stuart Fox, RNIB’s Chief Financial Officer, highlighted: “Schroders’ commitment to sustainability has been crucial in aligning our investment portfolio with our long-term goals and the overarching mission of the RNIB.”

This new mandate builds upon Schroders Solutions’ strong momentum in the fiduciary management space, having previously secured a £1 billion mandate with the Merchant Navy Ratings Pension Fund in 2024. Schroders Solutions now manages £220.8 billion in investment solutions globally.

Schroders, as a group, remains the UK’s largest charity investment manager through Cazenove Capital, offering personalized wealth management services. The firm works with 1,734 charities, managing £12.9 billion in assets, and serves as fiduciary manager for 15 pension schemes sponsored by charitable organizations.
