(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 8-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Schroders Capital’s Insurance-Linked Securities (ILS) team has been awarded the Best Decentralised Finance (DeFi) Initiative at the Digital Assets Awards 2024 for their pioneering tokenisation pilot, which aims to transform the management and investment of insurance-linked securities. In collaboration with Hannover Re, the initiative showcased how reinsurance contracts can be tokenised and traded on a public blockchain using smart contracts, streamlining processes such as subscription and settlement times through automation.

The project, which was trialed internally, was evaluated on innovation, transaction capability, interoperability, and risk management, and reflects over a year of collaboration with I.AM Labs under the guidance of the Guernsey Financial Services Commission. Schroders Capital’s initiative is part of a larger commitment to exploring new digital frontiers, including its participation in Singapore’s Project Guardian and the European Investment Bank’s GBP Digital Bond issuance.

Stephan Ruoff, Co-Head of Private Debt and Credit Alternatives at Schroders Capital, highlighted that the collaboration with Hannover Re represents a major step forward for efficiency and transparency in the ILS market. Meanwhile, Hannover Re’s Henning Ludolphs emphasized the value of the partnership in building future-ready skills and technologies.
