Scania Expands Powertrain Portfolio with the Launch of the Super 11 Engine, Offering Enhanced Efficiency and Flexibility

(IN BRIEF) Scania has launched the Super 11 engine, a new addition to its Super powertrain portfolio, designed for energy-efficient and weight-sensitive transport operations. The Super 11 is 85 kg lighter than the Super 13 and delivers up to 7% better fuel efficiency than the 9-litre engine. Available in three power levels (350, 390, and 430 hp), it meets Euro 4, 5, and 6 standards and shares 85% of its parts with the Super 13. The engine is equipped with advanced technology like Scania’s cam phaser system and turbo dosing for improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. It is compatible with biofuels, offering a sustainable solution for a range of transport applications, from bulk transport to recovery vehicles. The Super 11 will be available for purchase in June 2025.

(PRESS RELEASE) SÖDERTÄLJE, 20-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Scania has expanded its Super powertrain range with the introduction of the Super 11 engine, designed to meet the demands of weight-sensitive and energy-efficient transportation applications. With a compact design, the Super 11 is 85 kg lighter than the Super 13 engine and offers up to 7% better fuel efficiency than Scania’s current 9-litre engine. This new addition provides operators with enhanced performance, increased flexibility, and a more sustainable solution without compromising on power or reliability.

The Super 11 is available in three different performance levels—350 hp, 390 hp, and 430 hp—and meets Euro 4, 5, and 6 emission standards. It shares 85% of its components with the well-established Super 13 engine, maintaining Scania’s hallmark engineering quality while providing an operational fit for a wider range of applications. The engine’s reduced weight allows transport operators to boost their payloads in weight-critical operations, optimizing both fuel efficiency and operational capacity.

“This engine is an exciting development in the pursuit of energy-efficient and cost-effective transport. It’s lighter, more flexible, and still retains the durability and strength that Scania is known for. It’s the ideal choice for operators who need to balance performance with sustainability and payload,” said Ayyoob Zarmehri, Product Manager for Trucks Sales and Marketing at Scania.

Engineered with fuel economy and durability in mind, the Super 11 offers impressive fuel savings while reducing maintenance costs. Available in three variants (350 hp with 1,800 Nm torque, 390 hp with 2,000 Nm, and 430 hp with 2,200 Nm), the engine suits a broad spectrum of transport operations, from urban logistics to regional haulage. It boasts maintenance intervals up to 30% longer than Scania’s 9-litre engines, particularly when using LDF-5 engine oil.

The Super 11 also introduces advanced innovations such as Scania’s proprietary cam phaser technology for variable valve timing, enhancing engine thermal management and combustion efficiency. Additionally, the engine is equipped with balance shafts for reduced vibration and a robust engine brake system, which can deliver up to 344 kW through Scania’s Variable Valve Brake (VVB) system. The engine’s turbo dosing system improves AdBlue efficiency, optimizing overall fuel consumption and performance.

In terms of sustainability, the Super 11 supports both HVO and FAME biofuels, allowing operators to lower emissions without requiring new infrastructure. This flexibility makes the engine an ideal choice for operators looking to reduce their environmental impact while meeting performance targets.

The Super 11 engine is adaptable for a wide range of transport operations, including tipper and bulk transport, fuel and volume goods transport, refuse collection, temperature-controlled transport, general cargo, and recovery and fire engines.

“The Super 11 represents the future of intelligent transport. It combines Scania’s engineering expertise with the versatility and efficiency needed by today’s operators, whether in the city or on longer routes,” said Ayyoob Zarmehri.

The Super 11 engine will be available for purchase starting in June 2025.
