Scania and Cometto Launch Electrified Power Solutions for Sustainable Heavy-Duty Operations at Bauma 2025

Scania and Cometto Launch Electrified Power Solutions for Sustainable Heavy-Duty Operations at Bauma 2025

(IN BRIEF) At Bauma 2025, Scania will introduce an expanded portfolio of electrified power solutions for the construction and mining industries, including both all-electric and hybrid options. This new lineup builds on Scania’s renowned fuel-efficient combustion engine range. A highlight of the event is the launch of a fully electric self-propelled modular trailer (SPMT), developed in collaboration with Italy-based Cometto. This innovative SPMT, designed for heavy load transportation, features an integrated power system that combines an e-machine, inverter, batteries, and an internal combustion engine with a unique built-in clutch for versatile hybrid and electric operations. The system’s low noise output and modular design make it suitable for both urban and heavy-duty industrial applications. Scania’s solutions, showcased at Hall B4, booth/stand 120, and at Cometto’s stand FN.718/7, underscore the company’s commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency, further bolstered by its extensive experience in electrification from the truck, bus, and marine sectors. The collaboration also highlights Scania’s role in powering the transition to zero-emission transport, with the electric SPMT already secured by Mammoet, the world’s leading heavy-lifting company.

(PRESS RELEASE) SÖDERTÄLJE, 7-Apr-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — At Bauma 2025, Scania is set to unveil its latest range of all-electric and hybrid power solutions designed specifically for the construction and mining sectors, adding to its existing portfolio of fuel-efficient combustion engines. In a notable collaboration, Scania and Cometto will jointly introduce a fully electric, self-propelled modular trailer (SPMT) engineered for heavy load transportation. This innovative vehicle will be showcased at Cometto’s stand (FN.718/7) in the designated outdoor area north, while visitors can explore Scania’s full range of zero-emission and fuel-efficient power solutions at Hall B4, booth/stand 120.

Scania’s cutting-edge offering features an in-house developed, modular system that seamlessly integrates a master power unit controlling the e-machine, inverter, batteries, and internal combustion engine. This complete package also includes a cooling system, charging interfaces, mechanical connection interfaces, VCB cables, and additional auxiliary equipment. The integrated e-machine comes with a built-in clutch, enabling both hybrid and fully electric operations, which makes transitioning to complete electrification a straightforward process. With low noise levels in electric mode, the system is particularly well-suited for urban environments, while hybrid mode offers additional power and extended range when required.

The modular solution, provided entirely by Scania, allows for easy integration and can be tailored to meet the unique operational needs of diverse industrial applications. This launch marks a significant advancement in Scania’s commitment to making the industrial segment more sustainable, complementing its established line of fuel-efficient products and supported by its global service network.

“We are committed to helping our customers with their sustainability transformation,” said Björn Winblad, Director for e-Mobility Solutions at Scania Power Solutions. “Leveraging our extensive electrification experience from truck, bus, and marine applications, we offer a versatile, modular solution that adapts to a broad range of industrial uses.”

In a further milestone at Bauma 2025, Scania has partnered with Italy’s Cometto to debut a groundbreaking, fully-electric SPMT. Designed for heavy lifting, this high-torque, modular platform is ideal for industries such as wind energy, aviation, industrial plant relocation, and mechanical engineering. It features a built-in charger, compact design, long battery life, fast charging, and quiet operation—all while delivering zero emissions for a cleaner work environment. This innovative electric SPMT, which is the first from Cometto to incorporate an electric powerpack unit, already has a customer lined up, with a delivery to Mammoet—the world’s largest heavy-lifting company—scheduled after Bauma.

Adrian Zingan, Product Manager at Cometto, remarked, “For over 50 years, we have led the way in self-propelled transporters, continuously innovating to meet specialized transport needs. Our long-standing partnership with Scania confirms their expertise, reliability, and exceptional global service support, making them our preferred choice for our standardized SPMTs.”
