Rheinmetall Lands €770 Million Bundeswehr Order for HX Logistics Vehicles

(IN BRIEF) Rheinmetall has secured a €770 million Bundeswehr contract for over 1,000 logistics vehicles—963 swap-body trucks (some with protected cabins) and 425 UTVs in 4×4 and 8×8 variants—to be delivered by late 2025. This follows a 2024 framework permitting up to 6,500 UTVs over seven years and adds to previous orders under which Rheinmetall MAN supplied about 7,000 HX trucks. The HX-based platforms, renowned for off-road performance and used by more than a dozen allied nations, will enhance the Bundeswehr’s mobility and multinational interoperability.

(PRESS RELEASE) DÜSSELDORF, 4-Aug-2025 — /EuropaWire/ —  André Barthel, Chairman of Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH, said: “As a trusted partner of the Bundeswehr, we’re proud to boost the armed forces’ mobility and operational readiness with these additional vehicles.”

This award builds on the landmark July 2024 framework agreement—which allows the Bundeswehr to procure up to 6,500 UTVs (5 t, 15 t, and the new 3.5 t 4×4 variant) over seven years for a potential total of €3.5 billion. To date, Rheinmetall MAN has delivered roughly 7,000 HX-family trucks—encompassing swap-body systems, UTVs, and 70-tonne semi-trailers—to the Bundeswehr under earlier contracts.

Derived from RMMV’s rugged HX chassis, the UTV and swap-body platforms excel in difficult terrain and offer seamless interoperability in multinational operations. More than 20,000 HX vehicles are now in service worldwide, with users including the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Hungary, Singapore, Slovenia, Denmark, and Ukraine.
