The RE firm will establish a 2°C roadmap for its Full Service Centers aimed at reducing carbon emissions

(PRESS RELEASE) SCHIPHOL, 13-Mar-2020 — /EuropaWire/ — Real estate investment firm Wereldhave active in the Netherlands, Belgium and France said it will commit to reduce carbon emissions by setting verifiable science-based targets through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). SBTi aims at independently assessing corporate emissions reduction targets against scientific best practice.

The company has announced its revised CSR Strategy called “A Better Tomorrow” where it will reorganise all of its common areas to operate at net zero carbon by 2030.

Tenants and visitors can rely on help by Wereldhave to reduce their own waste and carbon leading to a net zero value chain by 2050. To implement its target, Wereldhave will create a 2°C roadmap for each Full Service Center it operartes.

Dennis de Vreede, CFO of Wereldhave on aligning the RE firm with the ambitious objectives of the Paris Climate Agreement:

“We see it as our mission to improve a more balanced everyday life for our customers. A better environment and a low impact on the world’s resources plays a pivotal role in tomorrow’s everyday life. We are committed to align our Full Service Centers with the ambitious objectives of the Paris Climate Agreement.”

Sustainability consultant Brian Shaw of Metabolic on working with Wereldhave on its ambitious target towards a maximum 1.5°C increase future:

“In committing to science-based climate targets, Wereldhave joins a growing global movement of corporates taking action. Not just doing better, but doing what is necessary to keep us on track. We are delighted to work with them on this journey towards a maximum 1.5°C increase future.”

In general, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is mobilising companies to set science-based targets and boost their competitive advantage in the transition to the low-carbon economy. The initiative is run by CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

As of today, Wereldhave, together with its sustainability consultant Metabolic, is determining its emissions of CO2 equivalent per square meter. The company’s targets will be made public once approved by the Science Based Targets initiative.
