Otto Group Appoints David Heckel as New Vice President of Group Tax, Succeeding Peter Carstens

Heckel, currently head of Corporate Tax at Otto, will succeed Peter Carstens, who will retire in mid-2025 after 25 years of service. (PRESS RELEASE) HAMBURG, 14-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — The Otto Group has announced the appointment of David Heckel as the new Vice President of Group Tax, effective October 1, 2024. Heckel, who has been with the company for eight years, will take over from Peter Carstens, who has led the Group Tax division for many years and will retire in mid-2025. Heckel currently heads the Corporate Tax department, where he manages tax consulting for domestic group companies and oversees tax reporting processes.

Heckel’s career began in 2005 at KPMG AG, where he gained extensive experience in corporate taxation and tax reporting for both national and international clients. He joined the Otto Group in 2016, rising to Corporate Tax Principal by 2020. In his new role, Heckel will be responsible for overseeing the group’s tax strategy and compliance.

Otto Group CFO Petra Scharner-Wolff expressed confidence in Heckel’s ability to lead the division, while also acknowledging Carstens’ long-standing contributions to the company’s tax operations. Carstens, who has been with the Otto Group for 25 years, will stay on in an advisory capacity until his departure in 2025.
