Nokia and TM Collaborate to Enhance Malaysia’s Optical Network, Driving AI and Hyperscaler Connectivity

(IN BRIEF) Nokia has partnered with TM (Telekom Malaysia) to enhance its international optical network using advanced DWDM technology. This upgrade will support the growing demand for high-speed, low-latency connectivity driven by hyperscalers and cloud-based services. The new network will connect key data centers across Malaysia, improving data traffic management and supporting AI adoption. Nokia’s technology will enable TM to efficiently handle massive data volumes while maintaining energy efficiency, positioning TM as a leading provider of optical network services in Southeast Asia.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 23-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Nokia has been chosen by TM (Telekom Malaysia) to enhance its international optical network with advanced Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology. This upgrade aims to address the surging demand for high-speed, low-latency connectivity driven by hyperscalers and the growing need for cloud-based services. The new network will connect key data centers across Malaysia, stretching from the Malaysia-Thailand border to the Malaysia-Singapore border, significantly improving data traffic management and inter-country connectivity.

The enhanced optical backbone, powered by Nokia’s fifth-generation Photonic Service Engine (PSE-Vs), will provide TM with superior transmission capabilities, allowing it to manage massive data volumes efficiently while maintaining low energy consumption. This upgrade is also a strategic move for TM to support the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in its operations, leveraging automation for better network performance.

Nokia’s WaveSuite platform will further optimize TM’s network management, enabling the company to monetize its network assets more effectively. This collaboration is set to position TM as a leading provider of high-speed, reliable optical network services in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

John Harrington, Nokia’s Senior Vice President and Head of Asia Pacific Sales for Network Infrastructure, emphasized the importance of this partnership in accelerating AI adoption and enhancing hyperconnectivity in the region. Nokia’s technical expertise and local manufacturing capabilities are expected to ensure the successful execution of this project.
