Nokia and Elisa Extend Partnership with 5.5G-Ready AirScale and Cloud Core Upgrades

(IN BRIEF) Nokia has secured a four-year extension with Elisa to equip Estonia and Finland with Advanced 5G-ready networking. The agreement covers: (1) AirScale RAN enhancements—Habrok 32 Massive MIMO, Pandion radios, Tuuli 26e, Ponente, Lodos, Levante basebands, and Dual Boost upgrades; (2) core upgrades via CNCS for cloud-native IMS voice consolidation, reducing energy and hardware by 10–20%; and (3) a modern data center fabric featuring SR Linux switches, 7750 gateways, and EDA for automation. These solutions will deliver ultra-fast speeds, precise timing, and quantum-era-resilient security for AI, VR/AR, and industrial use cases.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 13-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Nokia today announced a four-year extension of its partnership with Elisa to supercharge network capacity, coverage, and speed across Estonia and Finland, paving the way for Advanced 5G (5.5G) services. This comprehensive agreement encompasses radio access, core network, and data center solutions designed to support ultra-low latency and multi-gigabit throughput—critical for AI, VR/AR, industrial automation, and other next-generation applications.

Under the deal, Nokia will deploy its energy-efficient AirScale RAN portfolio, including Habrok 32 Massive MIMO radios and Pandion FDD multi-band remote radio heads for ubiquitous coverage. High-capacity Tuuli 26e and ultra-performance basebands—Ponente, Lodos, and Levante—will harness Nokia’s ReefShark SoC technology for maximum efficiency. Nokia’s MantaRay NM management system, plus ongoing optimization, maintenance, and support services, ensure Elisa’s RAN runs at peak performance.

Elisa will be first to adopt Nokia’s new AirScale Dual Boost base station enhancement, which leverages existing baseband and radio hardware to deliver significant uplink and downlink processing gains. In the core, Elisa will implement Nokia’s Cloud Native Communication Suite (CNCS) to unify IMS voice functions into a single cloud-native network function—cutting energy use and hardware needs by up to 20%.

Complementing its 5G infrastructure, Nokia will furnish a cloud-native data center fabric: SR Linux-based switches, 7750 Service Router gateways for telco-cloud interconnection, and the Event-Driven Automation (EDA) platform for accelerated service delivery. Additional core solutions include Subscriber Data Management for a unified data repository, Cloud Signaling Director for secure roaming signaling, and the Nokia Cloud Platform for automating network operations.
