NLB MUZA Opens International Call for Artistic Council Members to Shape Contemporary Art Strategy

(IN BRIEF) NLB MUZA has opened an international call for applications to join its Artistic Council, inviting experienced curators and leaders from the contemporary art world to help shape the institute’s strategic and curatorial direction. Building on NLB’s decades-long commitment to collecting and preserving Slovenian art and banking heritage, the Council will play a key advisory role in acquisitions, program development, and international collaboration. Successful candidates will be appointed for a four-year term, with applications open until 25 January 2026.

(PRESS RELEASE) LJUBLJANA, 6-Jan-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — NLB continues to build on its long-standing commitment to cultural heritage with the launch of an international call for applications to join the Artistic Council of NLB MUZA, its institute dedicated to the management and development of cultural assets.

Over decades, NLB has actively supported the arts in Slovenia by systematically acquiring and promoting fine art, resulting in one of the country’s most important corporate collections of Slovenian art from the 20th and 21st centuries. Alongside this, the bank has preserved a valuable collection of artefacts linked to money, banking, and financial practices, forming a distinctive banking museum collection that is unique in Slovenia.

To ensure the professional stewardship of these collections, NLB established the Institute for the Management of Cultural Heritage, known as NLB MUZA, in April 2020. The institute is wholly owned by NLB d.d. and operates as part of the wider NLB Group, with a mandate to safeguard, develop, and promote cultural heritage through expert governance and forward-looking programs.

As part of this mission, NLB MUZA is now inviting experienced international professionals to apply for membership in its Artistic Council. The Council will have a central role in defining strategic priorities, shaping curatorial approaches, and contributing to the development of program content focused on contemporary art.

The call is open to curators with extensive international experience in contemporary art, as well as directors of contemporary art galleries and museums who can demonstrate professional excellence, leadership, and a strong track record of achievement. Applicants are required to submit documentation confirming their professional qualifications, including a curriculum vitae, a list of exhibitions, publications, and projects, a motivation letter outlining their vision for the future development of contemporary art, and at least two professional references.

Appointed members of the Artistic Council will advise on the acquisition of contemporary artworks, the preservation and further development of the collection, and the formulation of program guidelines. In addition, they will support international networking, contribute to project development, and monitor emerging trends within the contemporary art landscape. The appointment will be made for a four-year term.

Applications must be submitted by 25 January 2026 and should be sent via email to matko.mioc@nlb-muza.si, with the subject line Application – Artistic Council.
