MTU Aero Engines Polska delivers 5,000th low-pressure turbine module for PW1100G-JM engine program

(IN BRIEF) MTU Aero Engines has celebrated the delivery of its 5,000th low-pressure turbine module for Pratt & Whitney’s PW1100G-JM engine at its Tajecina facility near Rzeszów, Poland. The milestone underscores the importance of MTU Aero Engines Polska, which is the exclusive global supplier of the LPT for the engine powering Airbus A320neo aircraft. With MTU holding an 18 percent share in the PW1100G-JM program, the company is responsible for multiple high-pressure compressor stages, the high-speed low-pressure turbine, and brush seals, with final assembly for one-third of the engines carried out in Munich. Since its launch, the GTF engine family has accumulated more than 12,000 orders and powers over 2,500 aircraft operated by more than 85 airlines. Leaders at MTU emphasized that the achievement demonstrates both technical excellence and the strength of collaboration, while reinforcing the Polish site’s broader contributions in manufacturing, engineering, and repair development for the MTU group.

(PRESS RELEASE) RZESZOW, 25-Sep-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — MTU Aero Engines has reached a key production milestone at its Polish facility in Tajecina near Rzeszów, marking the delivery of the 5,000th low-pressure turbine (LPT) module for Pratt & Whitney’s PW1100G-JM engine. The achievement highlights the growing contribution of MTU Aero Engines Polska, which serves as the exclusive global supplier of the LPT for this engine model, part of the Pratt & Whitney GTF™ family powering the Airbus A320neo aircraft series.

“This is a remarkable accomplishment both for the ramp-up of the GTF program and for our operations in Poland,” said Silke Maurer, Chief Operating Officer at MTU Aero Engines. “MTU Aero Engines Polska plays a central role in ensuring the reliable, high-quality delivery of turbine modules, enabling us to support Pratt & Whitney and its expanding in-service fleet worldwide.”

MTU Aero Engines holds an 18 percent program share in the PW1100G-JM engine. Its scope includes the design and manufacture of several high-pressure compressor stages, the high-speed low-pressure turbine, and brush seals, while final assembly for one-third of the engines takes place at MTU’s Munich facility. Globally, the GTF engine family has logged more than 12,000 orders and commitments, powering over 2,500 aircraft for more than 85 airlines.

Reflecting on the achievement, Jan Florian, Managing Director of MTU Aero Engines Polska, commented: “The production of the 5,000th module is both a testament to our technical expertise and a result of long-standing collaboration. Since 2015, we have continuously built our capabilities, and this milestone is a success shared by our entire team.”

The PW1100G-JM’s low-pressure turbine is one of the engine’s most critical components, providing the power required for efficient operation and directly influencing performance and fuel efficiency. Beyond the LPT, the Polish site also produces stator and rotor blades, shrouds, and offers preliminary manufacturing for components such as integrally bladed disks. MTU Aero Engines Polska further contributes with design services, analytical modelling, testing activities, and repair method development, underlining its growing role within the wider MTU group.
