METLEN Expands FemStem Initiative to Empower Women in STEM with New Training Cycle

(IN BRIEF) METLEN Energy & Metals, in partnership with Knowl, continues its support for the FemStem Initiative, aimed at reducing gender inequality in STEM fields. The six-month program provides women with 30 hours of training in essential skills, career counseling, and networking opportunities. Following the success of the first cycle, where 14 participants gained employment and 30% earned professional certifications, METLEN’s program seeks to empower more women in STEM careers. The initiative aligns with key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and is offered free of charge as part of METLEN’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts.

(PRESS RELEASE) ATHENS, 19-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — METLEN Energy & Metals (METLEN) continues to take significant steps toward reducing gender disparities in the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) through its ongoing support of the FemStem Initiative. Despite growing efforts to address the issue, women still represent just 28% of the global STEM workforce, limiting their career growth and leaving a notable gender gap in leadership roles.

In collaboration with Knowl, a social enterprise dedicated to lifelong learning, METLEN is launching the second cycle of the FemStem program. This initiative is designed to help women enhance their skills and keep pace with technological advancements, ensuring they remain competitive in a rapidly evolving job market.

The six-month FemStem program provides 30 hours of specialized training, focusing on essential skills for today’s workplace, including both technical (hard) skills and interpersonal (soft) skills, alongside digital proficiency. Participants will also receive tailored services such as CV creation, interview simulations with HR professionals, and access to direct networking opportunities with industry leaders.

The first cycle of FemStem achieved notable success, empowering 30 women to advance their careers. To date, 14 participants have secured new employment, 8 have pursued further studies, and the remaining participants are actively training or job hunting. Additionally, 30% of participants earned professional certifications with full scholarships. The program also demonstrated significant social impact, with a Social Return on Investment (SROI) of €2.81 for every €1 invested, contributing to both economic and social benefits for the participants and their communities.

As part of METLEN’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility efforts, the FemStem program aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, specifically targeting No Poverty (Goal 1), Gender Equality (Goal 5), Decent Work & Economic Growth (Goal 8), and Reduced Inequalities (Goal 10). The program is offered at no cost to participants.
