“Your Excellency,

The Supreme Court has confirmed the results of Kenya’s Presidential elections. The electoral process is thus formally concluded.

On this occasion, I wish to congratulate you, the people of Kenya, and all others duly elected, on the successful and largely peaceful conduct of the elections.

I commend those who have accepted the outcome even where they have not succeeded and pursued any contests through the due legal processes.

Kenyans can be proud that the political reform process of their country is bearing fruit. With continued efforts to implement the new constitution Kenyans can build the globally competitive and prosperous nation, they aspire to be. In that context it is particularly important that the domestic and international rule of law prevails.

The European Union welcomes the commitment of the new government and its members to abide by their international obligations.

The European Union attaches the greatest importance to its partnership with the government and people of Kenya, and wishes that partnership to continue and flourish to the benefit of both our peoples.
