MAN TGE Next Level Named Sustainable Van of the Year 2026 for Its Integrated Approach to Safety, Comfort and Efficiency

(IN BRIEF) The MAN TGE Next Level has been awarded the Sustainable Van of the Year 2026, with the jury recognising a comprehensive approach to sustainability built on safety, comfort, and efficiency rather than drivetrain technology alone. Applicable to model year 2025 onwards, the Next Level update introduces a completely renewed electronic architecture that enables advanced driver assistance systems, enhanced active safety, and a more ergonomic, digitally focused driver environment. With a wide range of assistance features now fitted as standard and significant improvements to usability and working conditions, the MAN TGE Next Level sets a new benchmark for sustainable design and operational efficiency in the light commercial vehicle segment.

(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 30-Jan-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — MAN Truck & Bus SE has received the Sustainable Van of the Year 2026 award in the Van category for the MAN TGE Next Level, recognising a holistic approach to sustainability that extends beyond drivetrain technology to encompass safety, driver wellbeing, comfort, and operational efficiency. The distinction, presented by Vado e Torno Edizioni, highlights how systemic vehicle design can deliver tangible environmental and social benefits in urban and commercial transport.

The “Next Level” designation applies to MAN TGE vehicles from model year 2025 onwards and reflects a comprehensive technical overhaul. Central to this evolution is a newly developed electronic architecture integrating updated control units, sensors, and camera systems. This foundation enables a new generation of driver assistance features while significantly enhancing safety for drivers, passengers, and other road users.

According to the STY 2026 jury, the MAN TGE Next Level distinguishes itself through meaningful improvements in ergonomics, comfort, functionality, and safety—factors that directly influence productivity, vehicle performance, and the quality of everyday working conditions. Particular emphasis was placed on the breadth of advanced assistance systems, which help reduce accident risks, support driver wellbeing, and contribute to more efficient vehicle operation.

Inside the cab, the redesigned driver’s workstation combines a digital instrument cluster, the MAN Media Van central touchscreen, and an ergonomic multifunction steering wheel as standard equipment. A newly configured dashboard increases available space in the cabin, improving comfort and usability during long working days and frequent stop-start operations typical of urban and regional transport.

The MAN TGE Next Level introduces new assistance technologies such as Blind Spot Warning, Drive Off Warning, Cruise Assist, Cruise Assist Plus, and Turning Assist. In addition, most existing systems have been revised and functionally expanded. Every vehicle in the Next Level range now comes equipped with an extensive suite of standard safety features, including Fatigue Detection, Traffic Sign Information, Intelligent Speed Assist, Emergency Brake Assist, Parking Assist, Active Lane Guard System, Cruise Control, and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, raising active safety standards across the entire model line.

By combining advanced electronics, comprehensive safety systems, and improved driver ergonomics, the MAN TGE Next Level demonstrates that sustainability in the light commercial vehicle segment is achieved through an integrated approach. The STY 2026 award underlines how protecting people, enhancing working environments, and improving efficiency can deliver lasting benefits for operators, cities, and the wider transport ecosystem.

The air-conditioning systems in our vehicles contain fluorinated greenhouse gases (R134a / GWP 1,430 with up to 1.15 kg equivalent to 1.6445 t CO2). In MAN TGE vehicle classes N1, M1, N2 and M2, refrigerant of the type R1234yf is used. The GWP value of the refrigerant used is 4 (refrigerant type R1234yf). In case of one refrigerant compressor, filling quantities vary between 540 and 570 grams. In case of two refrigerant compressors they vary between 785 and 815 grams.

With the MAN eTGE, refrigerant R134a is used. The GWP value of the refrigerant used is 1.430 (refrigerant type R134a). The fill levels depend on the refrigerant compressor and vary between 560 and 590 grams.

Our MAN TGE vehicles are equipped with summer tyres as standard. Please check the national regulations regarding any mandatory winter tyres. Your MAN partner will be happy to advise you.

The specified fuel consumption and emission data has been determined according to the measurement procedures specified by law. As from 1st September 2017, some new vehicles are already being type-approved according to the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP), a more realistic test procedure for measuring fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Since 1st September 2018, WLTP has also replaced the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) for light commercial vehicles. In cases where the fuel consumption and emission values are specified as value ranges, these do not refer to a particular individual vehicle and do not constitute part of the sales offering. They are solely used for comparison purposes between the different vehicle types.

Additional equipment and accessories (add-on parts, different tyre formats, etc.) may change relevant vehicle parameters, such as weight, rolling resistance and aerodynamics. In conjunction with weather and traffic conditions and driving style, they may also affect fuel and power consumption, CO2 emissions and the performance figures for the vehicle.

Efficiency classes rate vehicles for passenger transport with an M1 passenger vehicle registration according to the CO2 emissions under consideration of the vehicle dead weight. Vehicles which conform to the average are classified as D. Vehicles which are above the current average are classified as A+, A, B or C. Vehicles which are below average are classified as E, F or G.

Additional information regarding the official fuel consumption and the official specific CO2 emissions of new vehicles for passenger transport with an M1 passenger vehicle registration can be found in the “Guide on the fuel economy, CO2 emissions, and power consumptions of all new passenger car models”. This guideline is available free of charge at all sales points and from the DAT Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH, Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, 73760 Ostfildern-Scharnhausen, Germany ( https://www.datgroup.com/ ).
