Leading Renewable Energy Partnership: Polat Enerji and ENERCON Expand Collaboration with New Wind Farm Projects

(IN BRIEF) Polat Enerji, a leading wind energy investor in Türkiye, has expanded its partnership with ENERCON by signing contracts to add 110.5 MW of capacity across three new wind farm projects. These projects, which include advanced wind turbines and a 15-year maintenance agreement, will significantly boost Türkiye’s renewable energy capacity. The collaboration also marks a step towards hybrid energy solutions with the integration of a battery storage system at one of the sites. This expansion will increase Polat Enerji’s total onshore capacity to 876 MW.

(PRESS RELEASE) AURICH, 23-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — In a significant boost to Türkiye’s renewable energy landscape, Polat Enerji, one of the country’s largest wind energy investors, has deepened its collaboration with ENERCON, a leading global wind energy company. The two companies have signed contracts for the expansion of three wind farms, collectively adding 110.5 MW of capacity to Türkiye’s energy grid.

The newly signed agreements encompass the Yalova/Göktepe 4 wind farm project, which will be equipped with 17 E-160 EP5 turbines, the Kırşehir/Geycek 3 wind farm project with 2 E-160 EP5 turbines, and the İzmir/Ege 3 wind farm project, which will include 2 E-82 turbines. As part of the deal, an extensive 15-year operation and maintenance agreement (EPK) has been established, guaranteeing availability and spare parts for all three sites.

This partnership leverages ENERCON’s extensive experience in onshore wind energy, with a focus on site assessments, logistical support, and efficient grid connections. The collaboration reflects the ongoing trust between the two companies, with ENERCON providing the technological backbone for Polat Enerji’s expansion in the Turkish market.

Uli Schulze Südhoff, ENERCON’s Chief Commercial Officer, emphasized the strategic importance of the Turkish market, noting, “We are excited to continue our work with Polat Enerji, further solidifying our presence in Türkiye. Our product portfolio is well-suited to the local conditions, making this an ideal partnership.”

Arif Günyar, Regional Head CAMEA at ENERCON, highlighted the innovative aspects of the collaboration, stating, “Incorporating a battery storage system at the Göktepe wind farm marks a significant step towards hybrid energy solutions. This project sets a precedent for similar future endeavors.”

Neşet Özgür Cireli, Board Member of Polat Enerji, expressed satisfaction with the ongoing partnership, stating, “ENERCON’s turbines have proven their reliability and robustness across our projects. With our current installed capacity at 735 MW and 31 MW under construction, we are excited to increase our onshore capacity to 876 MW through these new ventures.”

The E-160 EP5 E2 turbines, central to this expansion, are designed for medium to low wind sites, offering flexibility and efficiency through project-specific configurations. These turbines, like all ENERCON products, are equipped with low-maintenance direct drives, ensuring sustainable and efficient energy production.

This partnership underscores a shared commitment to advancing renewable energy in Türkiye, setting the stage for future collaborations that will continue to drive innovation and sustainability in the region.
