(PRESS RELEASE) TUCSON, AZ, United States, 4-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Hexagon, a global frontrunner in precision and digital solutions, announces that its Mining division has made a significant leap in AI-based drill automation with the acquisition of Drill Assist from Phoenix Drill Control, LLC, a leading technology provider based in Arizona. Drill Assist leverages artificial intelligence to optimize the drilling process continuously, enhancing penetration rates, boosting machine availability, and ensuring reliable downhole data.

Dave Goddard, Executive Vice President of Hexagon’s Mining division, highlighted the substantial benefits of Drill Assist, noting, “This technology significantly enhances drill penetration rates, enabling our customers to extract more value from their existing equipment. It also provides highly accurate downhole data that helps identify variations in rock hardness and fracture zones, which can improve blast effectiveness and fragmentation while reducing energy consumption per ton of material mined.”

Operators at mining sites using Drill Assist have reported improved consistency and performance, even when less experienced operators are at the controls. One Drill & Blast Engineer at a U.S.-based iron ore mine noted, “With Drill Assist, you can place any operator on the drill, and their performance will exceed that of even seasoned drillers.”

“The technology simplifies operator training while instantly boosting productivity and the quality of drilled holes,” added Goddard. “Drill Assist will be a key component in enhancing blast planning and autonomous drilling within our material movement portfolio.”

The financial terms of this acquisition have not been disclosed.
