(PRESS RELEASE) HEIDELBERG, 20-Jun-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Heidelberg Materials has launched the sixth edition of its Quarry Life Award, a global competition aimed at addressing biodiversity loss and promoting sustainable quarry management. With a prize fund totaling approximately €300,000, the competition invites researchers, students, local communities, NGOs, and nature enthusiasts worldwide to submit innovative projects. These projects will be conducted at Heidelberg Materials’ quarry sites, focusing on advancing scientific knowledge and fostering sustainable practices for quarry biodiversity management.

The Quarry Life Award aligns with Heidelberg Materials’ commitment to the Global Goal for Nature and its efforts to promote nature-positive solutions. Partnering with organizations like BirdLife International, the initiative aims to raise awareness about biodiversity associated with quarry sites and broader natural environments.

Dr. Nicola Kimm, Chief Sustainability Officer of Heidelberg Materials, emphasized the award’s role in promoting biodiversity strategies through collaborative partnerships across science, industry, and local communities. She highlighted the company’s dedication to environmental stewardship and sustainable water management as integral to their operations.

Since its inception in 2011, the Quarry Life Award has generated over 450 innovative project ideas aimed at protecting and promoting biodiversity.
