GRAHAM Construction to build new sports centre for Oundle School in Northamptonshire

Oundle School in Northamptonshire has appointed GRAHAM Construction to deliver a £24 million sports centre project.

Hillsborough, UK, 15-Mar-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — Oundle School is the third largest independent co-educational day and boarding school in England providing education for over 1100 students.

Designed by Saunders Boston Architects with landscaping by PRP, the new sports centre will accommodate a fifty metre swimming pool, an eight court sports hall offering adaptable playing space for a range of sports, as well as the opportunity for whole school assemblies through use of retractable seating, a separate fitness suite with up to seventy stations, a dedicated dance studio and three further multipurpose studios.

The centre is part of a wider Sports MasterPlan which also includes a new athletics track, eight additional tennis courts, two new AstroTurf pitches and six additional netball courts; all complementing the award-winning JM Mills Cricket Pavilion which opened in 2015.

“GRAHAM Construction clearly demonstrated their experience and capability in the delivery of state-of-the-art sports facilities within schools and universities and this was a hugely important factor in our decision to select them as our contractor for the centre-piece of the School’s Sports MasterPlan.” said Dom Toriati, Bursar, Oundle School.

“The safety of our pupils and staff and minimal disruption to the School’s day to day life during the build was of paramount importance and GRAHAM Construction have shown that they can provide the customer care we need as well as the best in new facilities.”

John Maguire, Regional Business Development Director for GRAHAM Construction’s Birmingham office, said: “Sport is an enormous part of school life at Oundle and this new centre will offer pupils and the local community modern facilities for a wide range of sports and activities, replacing the current 1970s building. For us, this is a highly-rewarding project to be working on and we look forward to collaborating with the wider team on delivering these new and enhanced facilities for the pupils’ use and enjoyment.”

GRAHAM’s portfolio of education projects includes University College London (UCL), The University of Reading, The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Kingsgate Primary School in the London Borough of Camden, and a multi-million pound Learning and Skills Centre for Lambeth College. It was recently appointed by Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) to upgrade the School of Mathematical Sciences Building on its Mile End campus.

Construction is due to be completed in the academic year 2019-20.
