Garanti BBVA and Turkish Basketball Federation Renew Strategic Partnership to Support National Teams and Youth Development

(IN BRIEF) Garanti BBVA has extended its partnership with the Turkish Basketball Federation for another five years, continuing the longest-running sponsorship in Turkish basketball history. Since 2001, the collaboration has supported all national teams, youth programmes, and basketball schools, helping to strengthen the sport’s foundations and global profile. Both organisations emphasised that the renewed agreement reflects a shared long-term vision focused on youth development, equal opportunity, and sustainable growth for Turkish basketball.

(PRESS RELEASE) BILBAO, 29-Jan-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Garanti BBVA has confirmed the extension of its long-standing partnership with the Turkish Basketball Federation for a further five years, reinforcing one of the most enduring sponsorships in Turkish sports. First launched in 2001, the collaboration is now recognised as the longest-running sponsorship agreement in the history of Turkish basketball.

The renewed agreement was formally announced at a signing ceremony on 27 January, attended by Hidayet Türkoğlu, President of the Turkish Basketball Federation, and Mahmut Akten, CEO of Garanti BBVA. Both leaders underlined their shared commitment to continuing a partnership that has played a central role in the development and international standing of Turkish basketball.

Under the extended sponsorship, Garanti BBVA will remain the main sponsor of all Turkish national basketball teams over the next five years. This includes the men’s national team, known as 12 Dev Adam, the women’s national team Potanın Perileri, youth national teams, and the 12 Dev Adam basketball schools. Through these initiatives, the bank aims to continue supporting equal opportunities for children and young people while helping to nurture strong role models and future generations of athletes.

Türkoğlu described Garanti BBVA as a partner that has supported Turkish basketball at every level, emphasising that the relationship goes far beyond conventional sponsorship. He highlighted the collaboration as a strategic, long-term journey built around shared goals of growth, sustainability, and strengthening the foundations of the sport. According to Türkoğlu, the progress Turkish basketball has made in recent years is closely linked to having partners that share a long-term vision and commitment.

Akten echoed these sentiments, describing the partnership as a meaningful social investment rather than a branding exercise. He stressed that Garanti BBVA views sport as a powerful force for empowering young people, fostering community spirit, and reinforcing values such as teamwork, discipline, and self-confidence. These principles, he noted, align closely with the bank’s collaborative philosophy and long-term approach to social contribution.

The extension of the agreement reaffirms Garanti BBVA’s role as a key supporter of Turkish basketball and signals continued investment in the sport’s growth, visibility, and international success in the years ahead.
