Fortum to supply boiler unit refurbishment project at biofuel-fired combined heat and power plant in Sweden

ESPOO, 24-11-2015 — /EuropaWire/ — Fortum will supply a boiler unit refurbishment project at a biofuel-fired combined heat and power plant owned by Eskilstuna Energi & Miljö AB in Sweden. Fortum was selected as a provider for the project on the basis of an extensive public tendering process. The boiler refurbishment is estimated to reduce the nitrogen emissions by 5-10% in Eskilstuna as well as ensure safe and reliable district heating supply in the future for people living in Eskilstuna.

The three-month boiler unit refurbishment project will start at the beginning of April in 2016. The project opens up a new field for Fortum: in addition to an emission reduction in the combustion technology, a comprehensive refurbishment project, including renewal of the start-up burners, ash removal system and cyclone of the circulating fluidized bed boiler will be carried out. Fortum supplies the total delivery of the project, including planning, equipment deliveries, installation and commissioning. Maintpartner Oy is the installation partner.

The goal of the refurbishment project at Eskilstuna Energi & Miljö is to extend the 30-year-old heat boiler plant lifecycle far into the future. The 57-megawatt power plant is located in Eskilstuna, about 100 km west of Stockholm.
